As the maintainer of the Clean Up Twitter initiative, I’m finding Medium’s new short-form posts a very interesting development. The short-form posts are moving into Twitter’s territory. However, they are more carefully written than tweets. Writers in Medium’s Partner Program also get a direct monetary incentive to promote readership. Posts get more viewership when they are added to a Medium publication, and there is an approval process for getting one’s work into a publication. The more careful writing and the external vetting of Medium short-form posts might be able to reduce the hate and trolling that would occur in tweets.
