As an Aspergers Person, I Know any Works fit on Me and Other Aspies
Understand Aspergers’ traits and personality will help the Aspies to find works that're suitable for them and raising their self-esteem

As an Aspie or person with Asperger’s Syndrome, I have to selectively choose any jobs that work for me and comfortable to do. Yes, Aspergers people with all their shortcomings, mostly will struggle to find a job, to pursue their dreams, to adjust with the general working environments, to be accepted and trusted professionally and have longlasting career in one area of work.
Their certain traits may hinder them to accomplish any duties and responsibilities which for normal people could seem so easy to do while for the Aspies is like a big thing to deal with, such as make a presentation, do coordination with coworkers, even for doing a phone call!
We aren’t talking about Bill Gates, Sir Anthony Hopkins or other famous people who are presumably or have admitted that they have Asperger’s Syndrome and have been amazingly gaining success in their field. I believe these exceptionally great people have grown up in very supportive family, so with their super intelligence and talent, they could defeat any obstructions and thrive beyond their limitations.
Almost the same as other people who has disorder or mental illness as well as any othet person with physical disabilities, Asperger’s person have to adapt and adjust themselves to find comfort with only specific interest. In the case of picking a job, they will instinctively settle for one job that’s suitable with their special condition to make sure their boss satisfied by their work and to avoid stressful work-life.
So, what’re any works that great fit with people with Asperger’s Syndrome? I include my personal perspective as the Aspie in sharing this insight.
Asperger person tends to find enjoyment doing repetitive activities. For me, I really enjoy helping my brother making kites. Every day, if I have a free time from morning to afternoon, I would get about 400 pieces of handmade kite. Even more if I have a full time till night!
I enjoy doing it as I only have to glue a paper to its frame and cut the remaining paper, hem its edge with glue and that’s it, one kite has been produced and I can just grab another frame and a paper to make another kite. All are in the same pattern, again and again. Work in the factory in sorting section or packaging products are good for the Aspies.
Aspergers person loves to categorize something. They’re fascinated to see a similar or different kind of things that arranged neatly. Compiling and sorting archives, managing a warehouse for checking any products to a simply placing any products in store’s racks, etc, are really matching works for them.
Asperger’s person doesn’t feel comfortable doing video call or answering a phone call because they will usually need time to prepare what to say. When doing video call, they may concern about choosing the appropriate expression. For the bullied Aspies, they would not feel good enough or look odd on the camera, so they will avoid video call at all. Some Aspies may also have trouble involved in conversation and delivering their thought verbally face to face. So, the communication media that works for them are email, a paper note or through short messaging service.
An Aspie is very individual, loves solitude and some are very sensitive with sounds. Don’t put them in the position where they must do multiple contacts or doing coordination with other employees in completing any projects. They’re more comfortable to have own zone. A librarian or work from home is great choice for them. Too much noise will make them anxious or irritated. They would make own job as writer or online freelancer.
They’re very creative, artistic and imaginative. Most Aspies love painting, music, writing poetry or fiction stories. I myself enjoy creating poetry and drawing, also listening ballad or upbeat songs. A book reviewer or work at a museum as art curator are also suitable for them.
Aspergers person is very fascinated with number. It has interconnection with the categorizing interest/habit above, they love to gather and compile anythings to some exact number. That’s why in my Medium publication, I have “Our Best Discovery” which contains 35 best stories gathered throughout Medium platform. Each month, I also regularly launch a story list in "Be Open Trending Stories", "Be Open Golden Stories" and "Be Open Platinum Stories" dedicated specifically for all Be Open’s writers.
I always feel enthralled each time exploring this platform, searching any stories to list in my curated stories. I’m really obsessed to find new poems or stories to feature.
Yes, oftentimes the Aspie is very obsessive for the things they’re interested in. They will do any attempt to make the best for it, do observation detailly and enthusiastically present it to others.
They’re not so expressive. With their very subtle expression, it would be hard for other people to read their mind. I even got a suggestion from my reader that I should work as a poker player in Las Vegas as no one will know if I’m cheating or secretly planning a brilliant strategy to beat my opponent.
So, in other mean is if you a store manager, don’t place an Aspie in the area where they have to be expressive if you don’t want to loss customers. It will bother themselves as well. They don’t have bitch face, they just have difficulty to choose proper expression or aren’t comfortable to deliver their feeling through facial expression.
Aspergers person struggles to digest sentences or order. If you ask them something or have an order for them, you have to explain it in detail about what to do, where to begin and what to expect. They will be in confusion when you give vague command.
Aspergers person have difficulties to concentrate on more than one activity. For maximal result of their job, don’t give them too many duties in a time. They will be overwhelmed, can't think clearly and loss their track to proceed the works thoroughly.
They’re a problem solver. With their circumstances, they may not be able to overcome any of their own problem. They will almost need other people to help solve their problems. However, they are an excellent quiet thinker and examiner. They may instinctively try to find any solution even for other people’s problem. And then they would suddenly come and give you the solution without you asking which usually effectual as it has been observed and considered carefully.
Actually, Aspergers person can survive within their confusing lives. As have been said above, there are Bill Gates, Susan Boyle, and other people with brilliant intelligent or skill can truly achieve successness.
The Asperger sufferers have to work in the field they really enjoy; repetitive tasks, fast to see the result, solitude work-life's environment, not so complicated and free to express their skill.
As a thinker, a creative and imaginative person, their brain is rich of ideas. Oftentimes they will suddenly come up with new activities, new buying or new skills that may wonder any people around them.
Other people and the Aspies themselves can benefit their traits to be more productive as a person or an employee. So, if you recruit an Aspergers person, locate them in a particular section where they can give all their time, efforts and their dedication fully.
