As a Gay Texas Native, I’ve Had It Up To Here With Texas
This is why

My blood began to boil. My face turned beet red. I wanted to scream out loud, “what is wrong with you people?!” But I’m in New Mexico, and they probably would have thought it was over the theft of cars and catalytic converters, which I get. We all have our issues.
It was over an article I came across in one of my daily news feeds. The headline read:
“Texas GOP adopts anti-LGBTQ platform, refers to being gay as ‘abnormal’” ~The Hill, 6/19/2011
My main problem with Republicans is that they don’t really do anything. They didn’t want to improve the infrastructure in our country, which was a huge mistake. They don’t want to lift up the common man. They just want things the way they were in the 1950s and before, when women didn’t have a voice, Blacks would abide by Jim Crow laws, and gays could be jailed or worse.
An entire political party in Texas is running on this bullshit!
It’s part of a 40-page platform unveiled at the GOPs biennial convention in Houston, one of Texas’ few blue bastions. If this had been adopted a few years ago, the city would have never had a lesbian mayor (Annise Parker). Likewise, Ann Richards might have never been a governor if these white, republican males had their way.
The article discusses a comment Sen. Ted Cruz spoke of, referring to a same-sex couple kissing in one scene in the “Toy Story” franchise. He said:
“Like, just leave the kids alone. Consenting adults, you can do what you want to, but this culture assault is driven by radical leftists who want to tear down America.”
Like, Ted, go fuck yourself.
Republicans. They make issues where none exist or have already been dealt with.
Texans. You “place a high value on individual autonomy and liberty.” So what happened to live and let live?
The above quote is from an editorial that appeared in the Los Angeles Times on 6/21/2022. The article also says this about the platform:“It’s a backward-looking agenda of prim moralizing, anti-individualism and blindness to truth.”
Here are a few other blood-curdling things about the Texas GOP platforms:
- It calls for repealing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which granted the full right of Black Americans to vote.
- It is obsessed with people’s sexual lives. It wants to deny marriage to people who are not of the opposite sex. It seeks to end ALL teaching of sex education in ALL grades.
- It insists that Donald Trump was the real winner of the 2020 election.
- It even calls for a vote for Texas to secede in the 2023 general election.
So who ya gonna call when the going gets rough? Texas is plagued by everything from hurricanes to drought, severe flooding, and even killing freezes, all of which they have asked for and received federal help.
Have you noticed that, with the times, inclusion and diversity have become a part of many corporations’ mission and values? I can see them high-tailing it out of the state and many of the employees, who I presume to be a bit more on the democratic side. So this vast economy that has brought people there from every corner of the country will leave with their jobs.
Oh, and you’re probably going to need a lot more money to run this joke of a “republic,” so state taxes will have to be implemented, but only on the middle class and lower. Lord knows how much the rich folks are forking out already. Bless their hearts.
It hurts to have to hate Texas. I have so much family and many friends there, including my dear-old 90-year-old democratic Mom. But this isn’t about them. It’s about those running the state, a bunch of bigoted old white men (and I include you, Ted Cruz), who do not care about progression but rather regression.
I hope we don’t trade with you when you become on your own. We might miss your oil, but remember that a good chunk of the Permian Basin lies in New Mexico, the second-highest oil-producing state. The rest of the country is trying to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels anyway.
Beto O’Rourke is the only person I see turning this out-of-control roller coaster around. Then Ted Cruz needs to be voted OUT — gone for good, as he is good for nothing. But somehow, I don’t see this happening.
Seems to me like you’re aiming for an Aryan nation. Who wants to be a part of that except for old white men and their second-class wives — who may not be able to vote anymore. And for heaven’s sake, run the gays out; they’re ruining the world!
Democrats in this day and age aim to plan and progress for the future. They actually evolve! Groundbreaking!
Get out, Texas. Get out now. Alaska will still be the largest state. Although they’ve got their share of nutcases as well. But I’ll save any discussion on Sarah Palin for another time.
Just go. And take your AK-17s with you. Who cares about kids.
