Summary

The author discusses the implications of overturning Roe vs Wade, weighing the importance of accountability in consensual sexual activities against the need for choice in cases of rape or life-threatening pregnancies.

Abstract

The article "As A Female, This Is My Concern with With Roe Vs Wade Being Overturned" presents a nuanced perspective on the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs Wade. The author argues that while legal abortion has allowed some to evade the consequences of their actions, it also provides essential options for women who face traumatic or life-endangering situations. Highlighting the complexity of the issue, the author suggests that the ruling may encourage greater responsibility in sexual behavior but also acknowledges the hardships it will impose on women who have been raped or face severe health risks due to pregnancy. The piece aims to offer a balanced view on the ruling's impact, considering both its potential to promote accountability and the ethical dilemmas it poses for women's autonomy and well-being.

As A Female, This Is My Concern with With Roe Vs Wade Being Overturned

Sharing the good and the bad of the ruling from a female point of view

Introduction

The argument of whether abortion should be legal or not is neither white nor black but grey.

On the one hand, women who decide to have consensual sex should be held accountable for the result of their actions, and on the other hand, women who were forced to have sex should be able to have abortions.

In this article, I share the good and the bad about the Roe vs Wade ruling.

The Good: Accountability

An action always comes with a consequence, whether good or bad.

If someone cheats on an exam, they have to face the consequence of expulsion. If someone goes to the gym daily, the result will be a healthier body and an activity that might provide mental clarity.

One of the things that frustrated me about abortion being legal is that it became a way for men and women to evade accountability for their actions. If a woman and man have sex, the result could be a pregnancy.

Abortion being illegal means the following:

  1. Hopefully, Men, knowing that they can’t run away from responsibility, will be more particular and cautious before having sex.
  2. Men and Women will both understand that sex is not free because the consequence is not free.
  3. Fewer women will want to have sex, meaning that men will have to work hard and earn the right to have sex with a woman.
  4. Women will be far more selective about whom they have sex, meaning they will face fewer heartbreaks because they will only choose a man who has become worthy of them.
  5. Knowing that sex isn’t free, men will have to stop seeing us as a means for sex and see us as actual human beings.

The Bad: No Choice

In the UK, where I live, 1 in 4 women have been raped or sexually assaulted as an adult.

Humanity’s beauty is the ability to choose the actions we take.

Should a woman who did not consent to sex have to live and raise a constant reminder of their trauma every day?

What of a pregnancy that could risk the life of the mother? Cases in this category are where I believe abortion should be legal.

The woman or girl that was raped did not choose to have sex and hence should not be held accountable for an action she was forced to do. The pregnant mother should have a choice between her life and death.

The concern I have with abortion being illegal is that women in this category will have no option, no choice, even when it is needed, even when abortion becomes a necessity.

I hope this article presents another perspective on this topic.
