Artique’s Monthly Theme For August 2023

A little inspiration to tempt your muses

Welcome, me lovelies! It’s that lovely time of the month again — time for a new Monthly Theme! Growing up, August was always a month for resets and transitions. Summer was ending, back to school was just around the corner, and I was thrown back into the family dynamics after spending most of my Summer vacation away from them. I was always introspective, so it would take me a couple of weeks to reflect on my Summer away, being back home, and how the new school year would go. Those reflections often caused a lot of anxiety for me. I was rarely prepared for the chaotic scenes at home and school, even though I knew they would happen.

August is still a time for me to reset my life and work on transitions. Old habits are truly hard to break. However, there is less anxiety behind it now. As August rolls around, I begin assessing my previous year — what challenges I faced, how I handled them (or didn’t), what I could have done differently, what areas of my life I need to foster, and which ones I need to change, etc. And so this was my thought process when contemplating this month’s theme:

Resets and Transitions

HOW TO USE THE THEME

  1. Write poetry, short fiction, photo essay, essays, or music lyrics based on the theme. Make sure your own artistic creation accompanies each submission.
  2. Select a Writing/Art Spark and center your piece around it.
  3. Remember to tag your work appropriately and also use ‘Monthly Theme’ as one of your tags if your work is centered around the theme.

WRITING/ART SPARKS

  1. Create an Artistic Expression exploring transitions. This could be in your personal life or nature in general.
  2. Create an Artistic Expression by exploring how you can reset your life to reflect a more passion-driven life.
  3. Create an Artistic Expression using a junk journal to explore the past twelve months of your life. You can upload pages of your junk journal and give explanations.
  4. Regardless of the Season —the ending of Summer or Winter — create an Artistic Expression by exploring your family dynamics and how transitioning to the next season or phase in your life affects all of you.

There you go, me lovelies — some sparks to get your creative juices flowing. Feel free to do art pieces, take photographs, explore using AI Art, or even write some lyrics. You can write poetry, personal essays, or photo essays to accompany your Artistic Creations. We look forward to publishing your work and giving you feedback!
