What You Need To Know About Using AI in Sales
AI plays a big role in running sales operations in all its stages, pre-sales, during sales, and after-sales.
According to TechTarget.com:
Artificial intelligence is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. Specific applications of AI include expert systems, natural language processing, speech recognition and machine vision. — Source.
Advantages to using AI in sales:
- Gives companies a competitive edge
- Promotes customer experience and aids in personalization.
- Improves risk management.
- Helps in collecting, processing, and filtering data in order to provide useful insights that increase sales, customer engagement and promote customer loyalty.
- Expands growth and promotes innovative strategies within the business.
- According to studies, it can create more jobs (with one contradictory point below)
- Connects and reaches out to customers.
Disadvantages to using AI:
- AI transforms jobs, for the better and worse. Although it creates better efficiency and ease, it also takes away jobs and replaces regular employees which causes unemployment.
- In a video by Bernard Marr, he suggests it may make buyers inclined to adopt AI in their purchasing process as it allows AI to make purchases on their behalf. This could have negative and positive aspects, creating more expansion to the use of AI, yet losing that ‘human touch’.
- Can provide biased data as decisions are made according to data rather than other humane factors. We can see this happening in Amazon when they implemented AI for their recruitment process and it resulted in favoring recruiting males over females simply from the ‘AI data’ present.
- Algorithms can create biased data.
- Pattern recognition can pose threat to our privacy and continue to feed us based on our searching behavior, beliefs, and attitude.
- Expensive, especially for small businesses.
- Not suitable for handling customer complaints ad you need a human connection and no AI tool can replace that and may cause customer frustration instead.
