Article-a-Day MOTIVATION
THIS makes it easy (er)
The last time we gathered together like this you discovered how an article a day extends your reach every day. Get it here.
Today I’m going to answer a question from a member so you can discover how to stay motivated to create an article a day.
Let’s go:
Article a Day Motivation
Q: “How to get inspired to write content, when you are up against a deadline?” ~ Carla
A: Great question Carla! I’m going to answer it in 2 parts, the deadline part first and then the inspiration part.
Isn’t the word “deadline” kind of harsh anyway?
Here’s a little “Jedi mind-trick” I’ve used since grad school.
Here’s a recent conversation between my son Caleb and me:
Caleb: “There sure are lots of deadlines in college!”
Me: “Yeah, that’s the big difference between high school and college. In college they expect more from you in less time. What until you get to grad school.” (always encouraging, right?)
Caleb: “That’s for sure! How do you meet them all?”
Me: “Well the thing to remember is that deadlines are made up things. No one goes to the International Deadline Office to get their deadlines. <laughing> So since they are made up things they can be moved.”
Caleb: “Yeah right Dad. I can’t just move a deadline back without going through my professor.”
Me: “Who said anything about moving them back? I’m talking about moving deadlines up!”
Caleb: “Are you nuts?”
Me: “Maybe, but hear me out. Ever since grad school I’ve been moving deadlines up. So let’s say you get an assignment with a deadline of February 28th. That means the deadline for you is February 21st. This tricks your mind into getting it done a week early, and lets you grin while all the folks are going nuts the last week and last night before the professor’s deadline. And in the unlikely event you don’t make your own deadline, you still have a week of cushion.
Trust me, son. This got me through grad school.”
This one works almost without fail.
Now that we’ve taken care of the deadline part, let’s deal with the motivation issue.
Focus on the Results
Do I always feel like writing an article a day? Heck no!
But when I catch myself thinking “I don’t feel like doing this” I’ve trained myself to answer with “And just what the hell does that have to do with it?”
I don’t always feel like creating an article a day. But I am hopelessly and helplessly addicted to the results:
- More reach and visibility
- More high quality free traffic
- More list members
- More community
- More audience
- More members
- More short books
- More material to create digital products
- More profit
- More difference made
- More…
The “more motivation” strategy is what works for me and my members. Give it a shot. It’ll work for you too.
