Art, Science & Survival
I believe when we look at the fundamentals of what it means to survive and thrive in the human condition, we must always respond and encourage ART AND SCIENCE in equal measures. We all need creativity, art, science and ingenuity to survive. Without it we will slowly decline, fester, erode and live a joyless existence, unnoticed, forgotten, unrecognised and blended into faceless dust.

I believe creativity is the very essence of humankind that every person has unlimited capacity to use should they choose to collaborate. When artists cross with scientists and engineers, amazing things can happen. We can catalyse and encourage this human capital when we combine and discover areas of interest as two worlds collide.

We need music to live….
I don’t know about you, but I miss the freedom music gives us to socialise, debate, dance and enjoy life. I can’t think of anywhere in the world that doesn’t have music to enhance people’s lives and there is a song for most occasions!

The rhythm of life is our heartbeat, the seasons, the natural environment and the beauty of our civilisation. Sometimes and too often in the modern world this rhythm is only represented with ones and zeros in strings of data that are computed by algorithms.

We need grass, trees and mountains to live…..
We all need some fresh air, to get some perspective and remember that sometimes the best art and science is in nature itself.

A strong connection to nature and its power is part of how we are able to achieve dreams beyond the stars from our humble and small scale existance as an individual on the Earth.
We need the conversation and social interaction of family and community.
We are social animals whether we like it or not we are not islands and can’t remain isolated. We long for closeness, conversations, iteration and networks that cultivate ideas and culture.

Controversially, especially now, we need plastic & industry and science and technology combined to live.

We must take a step back and recognise this need, for our Art and science to be mixed, incubated and cultivated for our own survival. We are not only data and we are more capable of harnessing technology in a safe and playful way than most would believe possible. We have built shields and bubbles and barriers between the Arts and Science that are unnecessary and counterproductive.
Humans are Artists and integrators with a unity of life and ecological solidarity between all living beings. We are not artificial or alien and can’t escape our biology, as much as we might try. Death is proof of that and every one of us will choose a path toward it, some with a greater acceptance of the knowledge that we are insignificant without our inherent connectivity to the life around us. This is why we must and always will be as a species, whole, artists and integrators within our human and natural environment.
People like economic systems often try and separate, deny and disconnect with an artificial construct that will only lead to loneliness and failure.
Art and Science is all around us and I believe to be successful, move forward with respect for each other and those around us, we MUST MIX IT UP! The obligations we carry from generations prior and future mean we need to have the courage to play with Art & culture alongside technological power. Human genius is letting this creative power happen, hand in hand, so we can survive and live well.
