Aren’t We Like Succulents?

On Surviving Uprooting. For Guérin Asante

Photo by Dr. Seo-Young J. Chu

Aren’t we like succulents struggling to find new roots when old roots have been lost or severed or denied?

Aren’t we like succulents withering and drying in the Sun of dawning reality and losing ourselves…

when the nurturing waters of love and care have been taken from us or given only as token…

and even in death may we decorate the halls and walls in the hearts and hearths of those who have unrooted us.
