Aren’t We All Looking For Something?

A shameless self-promotion, I guess.

A couple of months ago, I had this idea to make a video, addressing humans’ incessant pursuit of things. The plan was to showcase this particular human behavior by taking into account humans’ never-ending urges and their ceaseless pursuit.

Moreover, I wanted this video to have an ‘artistic’ outlook so, I thought of doing a voice-over. Thus, I spent some time writing the whole thing and it took me a couple of tries before I got the voice-over, which I had hoped for.

The problem was I didn’t have the camera to shot the video and I didn’t know how to edit it either. So, I asked a friend to help me with all this. Thankfully, he agreed and the ‘mission’ was accomplished.

Luckily, it came out great!

I posted it on my Instagram and Facebook and it got appreciation and love from my family and friends. Most of the viewers applauded the effort and gave positive feedback. This whole experienced certainly boosted my confident and gave me an excuse to make more video-content.

But why am I telling you all this?

When I uploaded the video, I hoped to get thousands of views, yet only a handful of people, mostly my friends, got the opportunity to see that video. Nonetheless, I didn’t feel sad about it because I wasn’t making video-content on regular basis, it was just a one-time thing. So, it wasn’t a big deal.

Interestingly, out of nowhere, I got an idea last night. I thought of sharing it with you guys.

At first, the plan was to share the whole video but then I declined this idea. As Medium is not centered on video-content and people are not here to watch videos, therefore, I decided to share the writing part only, the voice-over thing.

“We all get a brief window of opportunity on this planet and while we are here, we keep looking for something.

Every morning we wake up, there is some urgency of doing something! Even in our sub-conscious, we are constantly pursuing, chasing. People. Dreams.

I know people, we all know people who are in the pursuit of love, happiness, success but at the top of it, a few ones are looking for forgiveness, empathy and compassion. Even they are people, who are looking for validation and worse, a few are in the pursuit of sadness, they want to feel numb. They are longing for death.

There are people out there, right now, risking everything they have to get something, which doesn’t belong to them.

And I’m no exception. My desires don’t allow me to sleep, my ideas don’t give the roam to maneuver, I’m in the cage, a cage of my ambitions, a cage of my dreams and the irony is I’m feeling free in this cage.

The paradox.

But at the end of the day, I believe that He will bestow me with things that I can’t even imagine or deserve.

However, this is an endless loop. I’m sure, once I get one thing, the next day I’ll be looking for another. Nothing surprising. This is how we, humans, operate.

Even if we are not sure about it, we are constantly looking for something.”

We all are well aware of the fact that human specie is bestowed with this unfaltering urge to acquire or achieve. We can’t fight against this. It’s all natural and instinctive. I don’t know the rationale behind this but apparently, human psychology works that way. We long for things and the moment we get them, we start longing for more. We are in this never-ending cycle. So, believe it or not, we all are looking for something.
