Are Your Goals As a Writer Really Worth it?
Don’t let fame change you.
I need to evaluate my goals as a writer.
Recently I read a post from Tom Kuegler about how being a famous content creator isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. He talked about the loneliness and arrogance of being at the top.
That got me thinking…what do I want as a writer?
I mean, I’m writing right now, but what is the end-goal to all of this. Do I want to write articles every day forever? Do I want to retire at 30? When you’re just starting out in your writing career, these questions can be hard to answer. Especially if you write for fun.
The classic answer to this question would be money, a bunch of followers, heck, maybe even a book deal. Maybe I could write the next Harry Potter. Maybe I could go further and turn it into my own TV series.
But I always catch myself when I think about what I want the end-goal of my writing career to be. While I still get excited about the future, I always make sure to practice my humility. I still see myself as a humble person right now, but you never know how things could change in the future.
Will I stay humble, or will I turn into some arrogant dick?
I always say to myself that I’ll never change, but those are just words. No matter how strong you think you may be, change can always happen.
I don’t want to turn into an arrogant dick. If I do, I hope one of my friends or family members tells me.
I’m thankful to have a circle of people who will tell me the truth, no matter how hurt my feelings get. I need to stay grounded. I didn’t think it was possible that fame and money could go to my head, but we’ve seen it happen with the nicest of celebrities.
I pride myself on having humility.
My mom raised me to be a giving person who sees things from another perspective.
That’s why I’m making this post to myself and any other newer writer out there. You may not know what’s on the other side, but at least you can guarantee that you’ve kept your humility with your friends and family. Keep your circle tight, or in other words:
Stay Gold.
