Are You Writing Good Quality Stories?
It’s the old argument: quality over quantity…
It’s not the quantity, it’s the quality.
That’s what I’ve always been taught.
To a certain extent, that’s true.
I have read so many people write, here, on this very platform, that you must publish daily (or, at least, very regularly).
Pump out the missives and all will be well.
I don’t get it.
On Medium, if you’re in it for the money, you need people to read your stories.
If they’re rubbish, then no-one will read, and therefore, you won’t get paid!
Surely, quality is better? I should add, by this I mean good quality.
Am I missing the point?
Should I just pump out any old crap and hope that some of it sticks?
Writers write.
It’s a craft that many strive for perfection(me included) but not everyone achieves.
Then I look at famous authors who pump out novel after novel of formulaic stories. You know the ones I mean.
The courtroom dramas, police procedurals, crime and adventure thrillers.
The sort of story that is regurgitated book after book.
The first few are fun to read but, eventually, they become very ‘samey’.
You know what’s going to happen. You’re no longer vested in the characters.
Don’t get me wrong. I read them because I treat them as ‘popcorn-style’ books. Just pick them up, read them and move on.
They never feel truly different.
Having said that, who’s having the last laugh?
Yep; those authors who have reeled us in and know they have an audience.
So, does that make my argument at the top of this story redundant?
Is it really quantity over quality?
Should I join the legions who publish daily, with the same old ‘See how much I earned on Medium’, or ‘Use this amazing idea to generate more ideas’?
The irony, of course, is that this isn’t a story that’s likely to reward. Ho hum!
In my humble opinion, measured, considered, well-written stories will always do better, in the end.
