Helping Others
One thing that makes me proud of myself is my willingness to help other people throughout my life. I was taught as a child to be kind and help others. I probably do less now than previously in my life due to my physical disabilities.
Last summer as some of you know my husband and I worked with the children across the street on math and reading. We enjoyed working with the children. I had to approach each of them a bit differently to get their full cooperation as the boy wasn’t thrilled to be doing school work during the summer.
They both had a work books. One thing he needed to learn was turning factions into decimals and vice versa. I worked a couple of the problems while explaining what I was doing to him. Then, I talked him through some and praised him when he did well. I slowly increased the number of problems to solve. Before long he was proud of himself and solving the problems quickly. The children would take completed worksheet home to show their parents. Their parents were very happy both children were doing well.
Being willing to help others may be as simple as listening to them talk or telling you about a problem they are having. There are many ways we can serve other people, whether is donating used items or taking someone to an appointment. Staying open minded and willing is the key.
