Are You Wasting Time between Uber Eats and Grubhub?
I chose my theme word for 2021 last November. The word is ACCELERATE!
The word came to me during a group coaching call facilitated by my business coach.
Prior to the call, I had no idea what my word was. Hence when I was asked, I replied with “I don’t have a word yet.”
But as the words left my lips, a scripture (Amos 9:11–15) I had been praying over myself for years, dropped on my heart.
The particular verse my soul keyed into was verse 13: “Things are going to happen so fast your head will swim, one thing fast on the heels of the other. You won’t be able to keep up. Everything will be happening at once-and everywhere you look blessings! Blessings like wine pouring off the mountains and hills. I’ll make everything right again for my people Israel” (Message Version)
I had in previous years summed this particular verse up into the word ACCELERATION, and as the verse swam and swirled within my heart, I knew my word for 2021 was ACCELERATE.
So I blurted out to the group, “My word is ACCELERATE!” and that was it.
Or was it?
Because God has a way of amplifying things you didn’t know existed!
The next day after work, I was hungry and had to make a decision on what to eat for dinner.
The choices were to order delivery or grab something from my fridge.
It was a little past 7 pm, and in between scrolling Instagram and asking myself every five minutes what to do for dinner, I didn’t make a decision to order out until about 8:30 pm.
Then I spent another 45 minutes deciding if I wanted Mexican or Chinese.
I finally chose Mexican, and spent another 30 minutes or more, scrolling through Uber Eats and GrubHub trying to decide which app to use and which restaurant to order from. By the time I made a decision, it was 10 pm and restaurants in my area were closed.
So I ended up eating some unhealthy snack way past my bedtime. I didn’t think much of it.
A few weeks after, in my early morning devotion time, I came back to the word ACCELERATE. I knew I wanted to accelerate a few things, but I wasn’t sure how much control I had over the word itself. So, as usual, I prayed.
And the Holy Spirit responded as clearly as day: “You need to accelerate your daily decision making. Your year would not accelerate if you keep wasting time delaying decisions in the small details. Accelerating your life is up to me based on a promise from my word, but you slow it all down when you can’t decide what to eat, or where to eat, whether to go running or to exercise at home, etc. Make the small decisions and move on.
That’s how you control how your life accelerates while leaving the essence of the promise in Amos 9 to me. You lose so many hours not making small and seemingly insignificant decisions today which makes your to-do list for tomorrow longer. Nothing gets done!
Sufficient for today is today’s issues…tomorrow will take care of itself. Your wing word for 2021 is…DECISIVE.”
And just like that, I learned that my indecisiveness in the seemingly inconsequential daily details of my life slows me down. I waste precious minutes straddling the fence in the small details that made up the big details. Minutes then grow into hours, and in some cases, days.
So dear friend, I challenge you to look into how you make daily and seemingly insignificant decisions and ask yourself…are you wasting your time? Beloved, You are Loved, Absolutely!
PS: A few weeks ago, I shared my second theme word of the year, ENJOY, with you. If you missed it, you can read how that came about . 2021 is the first time I have 2 theme words and a wing word. This is pretty new for me. :)
Hold up! Before you go, read a chapter from my upcoming book!
