Are You Too Complacent?

Are you challenged in your work? In your life? Or have you become complacent? I have been complacent many times in my life. It’s that spot right between comfortable and ineffective. You do what you’re supposed to do without pushing your limits or working to grow.
I have known many teachers I admired over the years who grew complacent with their career. At some point, many began to just teach the same old lessons for years on end without any change. They just continue to walk on the hamster wheel until they are able to retire. They work uninspired and disinterested. They find outlets in other parts of their lives and try new hobbies, yet they have left behind the notion that their career will be meaningful.
Perhaps you have witnessed others become complacent too. Have you seen it in your workplace? Maybe you have family or friends who are complacent. They go through the motions of life without challenging themselves. They stay on the same track without diverging for a new experience.
Ask yourself, is this where I want to be in life? Is this where I want to go? Complacency is just going through the motions. It is just doing what has always been done. Complacency leads nowhere.
I, myself, have become complacent in many areas of my life. My health is one area in particular that seems to take the hit. At times, I have stopped eating healthy foods. Or, I have gone through a stressful few weeks and eat out at restaurants too often. I let go of the notion of being truly healthy or returning to being an athlete. I refuse to exercise in the winter because darkness falls by the time my work day ends, and I have no interest in leaving home. Or, I stop training because I lack purpose. If I have nothing to really train for, why should I challenge myself?
Complacency creeps in quietly. Stalking your every move and thought until it becomes a habit. What I’ve learned is that complacency is a death sentence. It kills motivation, goals, dreams, and personal growth. It’s no way to live a life.
You have to learn to shake things up. Create new habits and routines. Challenge yourself to learn new skills or try new experiences.
-Start training for a competition.
-Take a course.
-Start a job search.
-Travel somewhere new.
Are you living your best life? Evaluate yourself honestly. Make adjustments to your daily routines.
Whatever you do, kill complacency.
