Summary

Sahil Patel, the author, initiates a reading marathon for the Medium community "Reciprocal," aiming to read and understand one author's work each day to foster deeper connections and support among writers.

Abstract

Sahil Patel addresses the Reciprocal community on Medium, expressing gratitude for the support that has helped new writer Martin L Shuck reach 100 followers. He acknowledges the challenge of discovering and fully engaging with authors' works due to Medium's vast content. To address this, Patel introduces a reading marathon, where he will dedicate each day to reading and comprehending the stories of a single Reciprocal author, sharing his insights with the community. This initiative, planned to last 90 days, aims to ensure that every writer feels read and valued, emphasizing the importance of reading in a writer's life and the meaningful connections it can foster. Patel invites all Reciprocal writers to join him in this endeavor and encourages readers to rethink their reading habits, advocating for a deeper engagement with the stories they encounter.

Opinions

  • Patel believes that every story has value and that writers deserve to have their work read and appreciated.
  • He emphasizes the significance of being useful, honorable, compassionate, and making a difference, quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson.
  • Patel expresses the joy he feels when his own work is read and wants to extend this feeling to other writers in the community.
  • He criticizes the complexity of Medium algorithms, which may prevent readers from discovering worthy articles.
  • Patel envisions Reciprocal as a supportive space where every writer and story is treasured, as stated by him, "Reciprocal will be a place where every writer or reader finds a place to share their positivity."
  • He encourages a shift from quantity to quality in reading, suggesting that readers should not just skim through many stories but deeply engage with fewer ones.
  • Patel is open to feedback on his reading marathon idea and humbly asks for support, even suggesting that those who appreciate his work consider buying him a cup of coffee.

It’s the start of the reading marathon

Greetings Reciprocal writers,

Hope you all are doing great.

Thank you so much for supporting our featured authors of Reciprocal. Because of all your genuine support, Martin L Shuck reached 100 followers.

Martin is a new writer on Medium and joined Reciprocal recently. I am glad that this community is becoming a helping hand for the new writers who are joining Medium.

I am trying hard to make this community genuine and transparent so we all can lift each other.

When I start reading Medium, it’s hard to find and read the work of authors because I sometimes randomly scroll the home page and read so many pieces. I know you all can relate to this problem which made it hard to read most of the writer's work with whom we have a connection.

In addition to that, we can’t read the 50 authors' work every day. So, here I am with all of you with one solution.

We have more than 90 writers and readers here at Reciprocal. I want to connect with each and everyone and that is difficult for me and our fellow authors as well.

So, here I am with a solution.

I am going to pick one author for a day and read their stories throughout the day and try to understand them and their writing.

Every day I will share a post about a writer whose work I read and will tell you why you should read that author's work just like I have shared the previous posts about featured authors.

By doing this, we can have time to read the stories properly so we can deeply connect with them.

I am going to do this for 90 days and try to provide support to all the writers of Reciprocal. You can join this new reading marathon where we all can read together.

The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I know the feeling when I see those blue dots of notifications when someone reads my work. I feel special and I want to share this feeling with as many as I can.

My goal to start this reading marathon is that not any single writer feels that no one is reading his/her stories. I believe every story and written piece is beautiful if we can find meaning in it.

We all can learn something from the words. Many writers are writing wonderful articles, but no one is there to read their work because of the complicated Medium algorithms.

Reciprocal will be a place where every writer or reader finds a place to share their positivity.

We at Reciprocal treasure every writer and every story.

— Sahil Patel

So, are you ready to read with me?

Are you ready to change the way you read everyday Medium stories? It’s time to go deep in reading because as a writer, our first duty is to read.

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.”

-George R.R. Martin

By reading the different stories of different writers, we have a chance to look at their life and feel their feelings. We can learn more about the different experiences of life.

After all, the more you read the more you know.

I would like to hear your feedback. Do share with me what do you think of this idea.

If you like my work you can consider buying me a cup of coffee.
