Are You Making One Of These 7 Weight Loss Mistakes?

You Don’t Know “Why” You Want To Lose Weight
Losing weight is hard.
To be successful you need to change habits that you have developed over many years.
It takes a lot of time, dedication and hard work, and you will give up when it gets difficult if you don’t have the right motivation.
You need to know “Why” you want to change.
“There should be a specific, meaningful motivation behind your workouts — and “because I’m supposed to” is not an acceptable answer. Once you know your “why,” constantly remind yourself of it, whether that’s by doodling it on your hand, making it your cell phone background, or getting it printed on a tank.” –Women’s Health
For me, my “Why” is my family. I wanted to live a long and healthy life so that I can spend more time with them.
What motivates you to want to change your life?
Write it down and put it someplace that you can see it when you want to give up.
You Are Not Moving Your Body
Don’t expect to lose much weight if you are sitting on the sofa watching TV, or laying in bed reading a book.
You need to get your body moving.
This doesn’t mean that you have to run a marathon or spend hours on a treadmill.
You need to get outside and walk.
If you can’t walk outside because of the weather, go to the local mall and walk.
Walk every day.
Use your phone to track your steps and try to work up to 10,000 a day.
“Any amount of activity that you can do today that you didn’t do yesterday, you’re probably going to start benefiting from it.”
Dr. Clay Marsh Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
If you can’t do 10,000 steps that is ok. The important thing is to move more today than you did yesterday.
Walking is something that most of us can all do.
Start today!
You Are Not Doing Resistance Training
Resistance training is important.
Dieting without resistance training can cause you to lose muscle which is the opposite of what you want.
Resistance training can mean different things to different people. Some of you can achieve success doing bodyweight exercises at home. Some of you will join a gym and use machines or free weights to build muscles. Some of you will start a Crossfit program.
“The importance of lifting weights is it kind of makes me who I am.”
Rob Gronkowski
It doesn’t matter which one that you choose as long as you choose one and do it consistently.
I try to get to the gym at least 3 times a week and currently limit my workouts to 30 minutes.
Can you find 90 minutes a week to improve your health?
You Are Not Getting Enough Sleep
Getting enough sleep is one of the most important factors for weight loss success.
We all know that we need to get 8 hours of sleep every night, but most of us don’t do it. Losing one hour of sleep a night can cause impaired memory, decreased productivity, and reduce the effectiveness of your immune system.
According to David Earnest, Ph.D., a professor at the Texas A&M College of Medicine:
“It is commonly said that health benefit ratio of diet to exercise is 80–20. However, when sleep was factored in, his ratio analysis of the health implications of the three would be 60–30–10, sleep, diet and exercise respectively.”
You will not meet your weight loss goals if you don’t 8 hours of sleep per night.
You Have Too Much Stress
We all have stressful lives. Some stress may even be good for us, but too much stress has a huge impact on our health.
“The number one root of all illness, as we know, is stress.”
Marianne Williamson
Stress not only prevents you from losing weight, but it can actually be the cause of weight gain.
You need to take steps to reduce your stress now!
You Are Not Drinking Enough Water
We all have heard that we should drink 8 glasses of water a day. You should drink more if you are trying to lose weight. Most experts recommend that you drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day.
If you don’t drink enough water you become dehydrated, and your body can’t regulate itself and flush out toxins.
“Drinking water is like washing out your insides. The water will cleanse the system, fill you up, decrease your caloric load and improve the function of all your tissues.”
Kevin R. Stone
Drinking more water will improve your chances of weight loss success.
You Are Eating The Wrong Foods
You will not lose weight if your diet consists of fast food and junk food.
You need a sustainable nutrition plan.
This doesn’t mean that you need a diet.
Diets don’t work.
You need a sustainable nutrition plan.
A sustainable nutrition plan doesn’t require calorie counting, restrictive meal planning, or any of the complicated crap that diets require.
A sustainable nutrition plan is about eating healthy.
I decided to switch to the Mediterranean Diet which was recently ranked as the #1 diet.
“The Mediterranean diet is rich in fruits and vegetables while low in sodium. It is also enriched with olive oil, high in antioxidants as well as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.”
David Perlmutter
The key to weight loss success your is finding a way to eat healthy foods on a consistent basis.
