Are You Enjoying the REWARDS of Pinning Stories to Your Profile Page?
Never underestimate the power of the pin!
Recently, I’ve been taking a few moments to check out what type of stories are being pinned to the profiles of some of my favorite writers and new followers.
Check out these awesome pins
These writers are bringing their “A” game by pinning some of their awesome stories.
For example:
- Let’s Get Physical — How Hugs Benefit You
- Take Nothing For Granted. In All Things Give Thanks
- We Write to Inspire Ourselves and Each Other on Living Our Best Lives
- Don’t Ask A Red-Headed Women If The Carpet Matches The Drapes
- Goodbye To An Old Home And A Dream
- I Don’t Need A Gym
Are you taking full advantage of this feature?
As you can see from the above titles, Pene, Judy, and Susan, all chose three stories to pin on their profile pages. They all sound rather appealing, but my suggestion to these ladies is this:
Don’t just stop at pinning three stories, when you’re allowed to pin FIVE.
Apparently, even though we know the value of pinning stories to our profile page, sometimes we get lax and don’t use it to our full advantage.
Do you find this happening to you?
I have in the past, that’s why I’ve begun to take a concentrated and focused approach to pinning my stories.
I suggest other Medium writers begin doing the same thing. Start taking full advantage of this feature, by using ALL 5 of your opportunities to pin stories.
That’s exactly what the following Medium writer did.
Notice:
- That’s Why I Couldn’t Do All the Things
- I Use Doughnuts to Measure Penises
- Three Things I Want to Try With My Husband but Am Too Shy to Ask For
- An Open Letter to the Men Who Send ‘HI’ as a First Tinder Message
- I Take off My Undies as a Reply
While the title of her first pinned story might not grab your attention right away, the subtitle most certainly will: “My left nipple misses you”.
I dare anyone to say they’re not the least bit curious…
Here are some more writers on Medium, who have taken the strategic step of pinning 5 stories to their profiles.
All of the above-mentioned writers on this page are finding successful ways to take advantage of pinning stories.
Have you already joined the club? If not, what are you waiting for?
Some writers may feel like they don’t want their regular readers to have to keep viewing the same pinned stories on their profile page. Their solution might be to simply pin one or two stories and leave them there indefinitely.
But suppose you occupied every single one of those slots, by pinning previously published stories that you want to get exposure for? You could alternate and swap the stories out on a periodic basis.
Keep reading, and consider the following points.
Develop your own system of organizing and pinning stories
It’s important to remember that you’re the one in control of which of your stories get promoted the most. So take some time, and develop your own system of doing things, and settle on whatever works best for you.
You can get creative about what kind of system you set up, to help you monitor your stories, and change the ones you decide to pin.
For instance, I’ve written previous stories on this topic, where I suggested the method of pinning older stories that are related to your future stories that you plan to publish for the week.
You can read all about how I sometimes use this particular method. But don’t stop there.
You can pin five different stories everyday if you want to. If doing that works out strategically for you and your earnings, I say go for it!
Whatever strategy you decide to adopt, I personally think it’s a good idea to make sure you always have some type of directory related story.
Notice what this writer did on her profile page:
- My Most Popular Stories — (Must Be Reasons For That)
- Welcome To My Profile — Scroll Down For My Latest Stories
- Falling In Love Before You’ve Even Met
- A Dr. Seuss Style Poem To Welcome A Newborn
- Above All Else Teach Your Child Integrity
Not only has Maria strategically pinned a story, directing readers to some of her most popular stories, but she also provides a directory and instructs them on how to benefit from her latest stories.
By now, many of you are probably putting on your thinking caps, especially those of you writers who have been neglecting or taking this feature for granted.
So what are your plans going forward?
Final Thoughts
Remember, regardless of which strategy you use when you pin your stories, the most important thing, is to HAVE a strategy.
This is an extremely useful feature that can help benefit your earnings. To what degree, that remains to be seen?
Give it a try for an entire month, and monitor the outcome. You might just be pleasantly surprised.
Never underestimate the power of the pin!
