Are You Driven by the Fear of Being Average

Say ‘No’ to just okay but without getting overwhelmed

Mediocre. There, but not quite there.

Being average scares most people.

Everyone wants to excel at what they do and succeed in their endeavors.

Many don’t make it because either they don’t think themselves worthy or don’t work hard enough to get there.

Either way, they have to be content with the label of an okay okay person.

Nothing is disparaging about being average

To see it through a positive lens means at least you began and tried.

But that’s not how people around you view things. There’s a general black-and-white perspective: If you reach the top, you’re a winner. If you don’t, you’re a loser. And everything in between encapsulates the dreaded word ‘average.’

If you randomly ask anyone what average implies, they’ll tell you around the same thing: it means you’re not the best, you didn’t do so well, and you didn’t kill it, so to speak.

That’s what hits you hard.

You know you did put in the effort and tried your best, but perhaps your best wasn’t good enough.

It’s disappointing, sometimes frustrating, to know you’re not on par with others. That you don’t measure up. That you’re mediocre.

When fear becomes the driving force

Fear of being average and getting lost in the sea of the ordinary pushes people to work harder, stay at their goals longer, and excel at what they do.

They are fueled not by passion but by fear.

It is not the pull of achieving their goals but the push of not accepting the average that rules their life.

Going overboard with the obsession of avoiding mediocrity can lead to stress and jeopardize your mental health.

And that’s not worth the trouble.

Instead of letting the fear of average drive you nuts, why not focus on improving yourself, upgrading your mindset, and leveling up your skills?

Preparing yourself to be the best will go a long way in boosting your confidence and improving your performance.

When you invest in yourself and work on 360-degree development, you don’t have to worry about people accepting and applauding you.

Your work will do the talking, and the outstanding results will garner people’s attention, appreciation, and validation.

Operating from a positive space within and striving for excellence is your ticket to lasting success.

So it makes sense to let go of the fear of average controlling you.

Allow yourself to be guided by the need to make yourself better each day.

Make a lifelong commitment to personal development, look for areas of improvement, and take consistent action. You’ll see your better version unfolding right in front of you.

Embrace it, keep taking baby steps, and keep raising the bar higher for yourself.
