Are You Consistently Inconsistent? Here’s How To Change It

The secret is to hold on tight to your vision.

Why is it that some people see life as an exciting adventure, while others can’t seem to find anything good in it at all?

It’s a tough question, but we see it every day. The latter have a veil over their eyes, blocking them from reaching their fullest potential.

People with dreams are much more interesting and attractive. They have an energy about them that’s infectious.

We need dreams and visions to keep us going in life. So seek and find your vision.

Your vision must be bigger than you — something you can only dream of right now.

A lack of consistency can bring a lack of interest.

You must be consistent in what you do and commit to what you have started.

Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you.

IF YOU ARE PERSISTENT, YOU WILL GET IT.

IF YOU ARE CONSISTENT, YOU WILL KEEP IT.

Of course, want what you’re after. It has to mean something to you. How can we get excited about something we don’t want?

I know we don’t always know what we want, but we can start by asking ourselves questions.

Is there something you want?

You could be in a job you hate or a relationship that doesn’t feel right, and because of this, you are inconsistent. It’s a way of avoiding your reality.

It would be much better if you sat down with a pen and paper and got real with yourself. For example, if you hate your job, what steps can you take to find something you want?

What would feel more fulfilling for you?

Would you enjoy your relationships more if you were happy with your work? If not, what can you do about your relationships?

These are just some ideas, but my point is, you need to see for your life.

How are things going in your life now and what needs to change?

How do we stay motivated and consistent in our efforts?

The secret is to hold tight to your vision — never let it go. It will be your guiding light. So nourish it, care for it, but most of all, protect it from those mediocre minds.

“Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.”

— Albert Einstein

This seed (your vision) needs the right environment in which to grow. That is your responsibility. It’s your job to guard your life and your vision. Reviewing your vision regularly will help you stay on track.

How?

By knowing that the vision reveals itself in parts and it is only by walking in it you see it in all its fullness.

The key is to keep moving forward every day, a little at a time, being consistent in your efforts.

‘Consistent action creates consistent results’

— Christine Kane

Staying on course

Some ideas will divert you off your essential course of action but don’t worry, it’s just one of those winding roads. Turn around and get back on track.

Not everyone will understand what you’re doing or even why you’re doing it. In fact, you will even doubt yourself but learn to trust and believe in yourself.

Don’t be looking for cheerleaders, be your own best cheerleader.

Consistency in leadership

Consistency builds trust. Think of any product or service that you feel satisfied with that you happily return to. What makes you return to your favorite brand or favorite restaurant, club, or shop?

Probably consistency in the service they provide, the consistency in warmth and friendliness, consistency in quality, standards, attention to detail, communication, prices, care, etc.

You get what it says on the tin. They consistently meet your need. It’s difficult to sustain an audience, though. It takes time and effort. Bruce Springsteen once said that sustaining an audience is hard, ‘it demands a consistency of thought, of purpose and of action over a long period.’

Consistency in business

  • Image — visual consistency, e.g. Coca Cola, they don’t change their image.
  • Colors — e.g. Coca Cola consistently uses red and white.
  • Icons — also unchanged, e.g. Nike.
  • Tone and character of your brand.
  • Typography — the size of the print, font, etc.
  • Prices.
  • Communication.
  • Relationships.
  • Quality of product or service.
  • Speed of delivery.
  • Follow-through.
  • Professionalism.

Consistency in personal relationships

We show our love by consistently showing up in our relationships. We are trustworthy.

If I show up late all the time or continuously cancel meetings, will that develop trust? No, it won’t. It sends out a message that I don’t value the other person enough to be on time.

Communicate clearly and be consistent in your behavior. Be dependable.

Don’t get over-familiar and forget your manners. Be polite and show appreciation for even the little things people do for you.

Habits

Consistency is about forming good habits and sticking with them. If you continually work towards something you believe in, it sends out a message to others that what you’re after has value.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not an act, but a habit.”

— Aristotle

We also need to be consistent in our daily habits, such as the time we get up each morning, our diet, exercise routine, what we read, prayer/reflection time, chores, and activities that give us purpose each day.

These habits will change your outlook on life, and you will feel happier. Consistency does not sound very exciting, but it is what we need to bring positive results.

All good relationships both in life and business need our continuous attention, often is much better than great acts once in a while.

I wish you every success as you work consistently towards fulfilling your vision.
