Are You Committed to Continuous Personal Growth?
Digging deeper to cultivate more vulnerability in life
“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” — B.B. King
I’ve been on a journey to improve my writing. Publishing content on Medium has forced me to evaluate the way I write — and how I can become better.
Why should I care?
If I want my content to resonate with readers, I need to write in a way that strikes an emotional chord with them.
If readers like my content, it’s likely that they’ll subscribe to my magazine, possibly subscribe to the content beyond the paywall (at my personal website) — and on Medium, reads translate into earnings.
I could stop caring about becoming a better writer, but that would only hurt me.
I won’t learn better ways to connect with people.
My subscriber list won’t increase.
Earnings will stay at a standstill.
Digging deeper
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” — Mahatma Gandhi
You may not be a writer. Maybe you’re a reader and have stumbled upon my content here in this gigantic online world. Hopefully, what I write resonates with you and we continue to both grow in this writer-reader online relationship.
Wherever you find yourself in the grand spectrum of the learning journey, I hope you are a pilgrim who seeks to learn continually.
· Open — Stay open to learning new things daily. You don’t know everything. That may be a big surprise to some people. However, having an open mindset can help you to cultivate deeper personal and spiritual growth.
· Vulnerable — Continual learning requires vulnerability because you need to dig deeper so you can better connect with those who know more than you.
· Humble — It takes humility to stay in continual motion of learning new things. You must be open to constructive criticism so you can grow and change.
· Spirit — We are a three-part being — body, soul, and spirit. Feeding your spirit is a vital factor in enhancing your spiritual growth and illumination in life.
Main takeaway
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” — Benjamin Franklin
Embrace the learning process.
You’ll likely fail. And that’s okay. The only way you’ll truly fail, is if you mess up and never try again. Stay open to constructive criticism. Learn from those who have gone before you and succeeded.
Don’t be afraid to dig deeper and become vulnerable as you learn.
Vulnerability is a beautiful thing. Being open can help you in all relationships in your life. When you close yourself off to growth in your relationships (even your “relationship” with your readers), that can stunt your personal and professional growth.
Humility is a trait that can catapult the educational process for you.
Humble people can admit when they are wrong. Humility is a superpower. It can bring you to the tipping point of success in your life. It allows you to embrace your failures and move forward in personal growth.
Through this journey, don’t neglect to feed your spirit.
If all you’re feeding is your flesh and soul — and not your spirit — you’re missing out on a wealth of illumination in life. Focusing on spiritual growth (whatever you believe in) can dramatically improve your life in a positive way.
