How do you define an intelligent person? Are “intelligent” people different from “less intelligent” ones?

What are the common traits of highly intelligent people?

Intelligence is one of the most traditional subjects in psychology.

Much has been said about intelligence, but what is it anyway?

In other words, identifying a smart person, or what makes that person smart, without knowing what that means, is no easy task.

The definitions of the concept of intelligence are many.

We found a bit of everything to identify traits of intelligence. For some, it’s the ease of solving problems, for others, it’s the art of questioning, or even, the way to choose the right time to make decisions…

When we talk about intelligence, we usually refer to an individual’s intellectual capacity.

· Ability to learn, remember and use new information.

· Solve problems.

· Ability to adapt to new situations.

The ability to ask questions is perhaps the primary sign of intelligence.

Science advances when it can ask important questions to obtain relevant answers. Traditionally, a person who is skilled at solving logical problems is also considered to be intelligent.

Intelligent people are very observant, thoughtful, and good listeners. We have as common characteristics in intelligent people.

· Curiosity.

· Natural memory.

· Fertile imagination.

· Originality.

· Sense of justice.

· Flexibility.

· Solidarity.

Nowadays, patterns of behaviour and common characteristics among intelligent people are used.

The most common patterns are.

· The high level of adaptability is a mental quality of human intelligence, which includes the ability to learn from experience, adapt to new situations, understand abstract concepts, and manipulate the environment itself.

· Therefore, whether through experience or intellectual knowledge, intelligent people tend to be adaptable, managing to understand the space in which they are inserted and the best way to act.

· A frequent example of this adaptability is that intelligent people, in the workplace, are completely different from what they are at home. Above all, they can understand what each space or group expects from them.

They are curious and open-minded. In intelligent people, these distinct characteristics are associated. Because they are very curious, they tend to be more flexible and have a more open mind.

These people are aware of their limitations and how much they don’t know about a certain subject. For this reason, they tend to ask more questions, pay attention to new stimuli, and undergo experiences that are different from the reality they are used to.

As they act with more humility and attention, they are not as subject to criticism. They are always looking for an opportunity to improve. Therefore, they are always looking for new information, keeping up to date with news and breaking the routine to find knowledge.

They tend to be empathetic. Intelligent people have a high level of personal knowledge, as they understand their emotions, feelings, and reactions. As a result, they tend to be more sensitive to other people’s experiences, making them not only good listeners but also more empathetic leaders.

They think differently.

Smart people are often excellent at solving a variety of problems, as they don’t just think of the usual solutions, but try new approaches. Thanks to their curiosity, they understand the situation from other perspectives before determining what the best response is.

When it comes to creativity, they tend to exhaust all possibilities and simple answers, to create innovations that haven’t been considered before. Since they are always attentive to different opinions.

Usually have a good sense of humour. In general, intelligent people manage to have good control of their emotions, avoiding overreactions or meltdowns. They tend to make jokes and puns to make others laugh, and jokes with irony and sarcasm are their favourite.
