Are you a Quiet Person?

It’s easy to feel judged.

Being a quiet person doesn’t mean we are angry, sad, or annoyed.

Sometimes it’s just because we have nothing to say.

Sometimes it’s because we would rather listen and understand what’s being said before speaking.

Sometimes it’s because we feel silence is the best way to respond. Silence is often misconstrued with negative connotations.

People assume quiet people are arrogant, snooty, unhappy, or even just plain rude. That’s not to say some people try to portray those kinds of emotions, but it’s wrong to say all quiet people are the same.

Quiet people are not always antisocial.

Just because someone is silent, does not mean they do not like people. Quiet people like to listen more and speak less. They like to engage in conversations with friends and family but may not speak too much.

Quiet people don’t think they are better than others.

Quiet people are often seen as being rude or self-involved. Quiet people do not think they are better than you. We just like to listen more. We like to learn more from others and deeply understand their point of view.

Quiet people observe people more.

Quiet people observe more, they observe the people around them, their body language, and their facial expressions. Quiet people learn more about others from observing rather than talking.

Quiet people do not put up with disrespect.

Quiet people do not like being disrespected. Just because we are quiet, it does not mean we will put up with rudeness. We have a strong sense of self-worth.

If someone comes along and threatens our values and moral beliefs, we will walk away. Just because we don’t have much to say, does not mean we will put up with being ridiculed.

I firmly believe I am a woman of few words. Even when I’m surrounded by my friends and family, I don’t talk as much. I speak when I feel like I have something worthwhile to say.

I am not someone who can suddenly make small talk. I believe in developing my relationships with my true honest self. That also means understanding my silence.

Quiet people think deeply and take the time to understand themselves. It sometimes takes silence to learn about ourselves. To learn about what we like and what we don’t like. Silence can also allow people to learn more about others and their persona.

The first thing I notice in someone is their eyes. I believe the eyes tell a story about someone. I can pick up if someone is sneaky, kind, innocent, or rude just by looking into their eyes.

This is why I am quiet around new people. I can easily read someone’s energy, and body language and immediately decide if they like me or not. I mean there is no point in taking to someone who has no interest in taking to me.

At times, I find people judging me because I’m quiet. Be it in the office, in social settings, or even in small group gatherings. I find people looking at me weird or even trying to make small talk just to get me to say something. I am always more than happy to have a chat if someone comes up to me but I prefer to sit and listen. I’m just trying to be my authentic self.

The next time you meet a quiet person, please don’t judge us. We are not all mean, rude or pretentious. We love to talk to people but it takes a while for us to warm up to others.

Some of us like to think a lot before we speak while others just like to listen. This doesn’t mean we don’t care about others. We just appreciate people differently, just a bit more quietly.

Be who you are. That’s my motto. Whether it is quiet and witty, loud and proud, or anything in between, be yourself.
