Are You A Pessimist, If So Then You Must Be Happy Being Miserable

Try optimism on for size and stop complaining

Oh no, the sky is falling!

Democrats want to take our guns and raise our taxes.

Republicans hate minorities.

COVID is a government conspiracy.

The list goes on and on. We have become a society of fear-mongers. We anticipate that everyone we meet is trying to put one over on us. Trust is deteriorating between people and we even look at our neighbors with distrust.

This is a shame, it’s dangerous, and it’s destructive to society. Sure, a healthy dose of skepticism is warranted in this technology-driven age, but this skepticism must be used judiciously.

The eternal pessimist

What fear-mongering and distrust breeds is pessimism. It causes us to view everything in the negative. It causes us to look for the worst in everything and everyone. This can’t possibly be helpful to anyone.

Pessimism

a tendency to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen; a lack of hope or confidence in the future.

— Oxford Languages Dictionary

For me, and I’m sure for many of you, this is most evident when it comes to politics though politics doesn’t hold an exclusive on this.

I don’t care if you’re a liberal, conservative, on have no political affiliation, it creeps into our lives regardless. This is why I’ve chosen to limit the amount of time I spend reading, listening, and watching the news. I absorb just enough to be informed, but not enough to ruin my day.

I’m not a pessimist by nature, I believe that deep down the majority of people are good. I have to believe this just to be able to interact with others. Having been this way for going on 58 years, I don’t think I’ve been wrong in my approach.

I also don’t believe that everything going on today is as bad as it seems. I don’t believe half of what is reported in the media, and I certainly don’t believe it without doing my due diligence.

Anything can have a spin put on it to make it look either good or bad. We see this every day on the internet, on television, and on the radio. Even talking to your friends and family you will find they unintentionally put their own spin on people and issues. And each time this happens we get a little further from the truth.

Pessimism and its cousin hopelessness never solve anything. They only perpetuate each other. This negativity oftentimes results in depression and other mental illnesses that run rampant through society today.

Just look at the pharmaceutical industry, bless their little hearts, they are pumping out new medications as fast as they can to keep up with our illnesses. This shouldn’t be necessary.

How ‘bout we give optimism a try, it’s sure a lot more fun

If we want to solve our problems and unite instead of divide, we need to replace pessimism with optimism. Optimism is what solves problems and betters the world.

Wouldn’t it be nice to wake up in the morning with a smile on your face and a positive attitude?

You know that nothing in life is perfect and that you’ll likely encounter issues throughout your day, but you also know that nothing is insurmountable. With the right attitude, an optimistic attitude, you can overcome anything.

Optimism

hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something.

the doctrine, especially as set forth by Leibniz, that this world is the best of all possible worlds.

— Oxford Language Dictionary

If we met our day with an optimistic attitude we would be far more successful, we could solve our differences, and get out of this whirlpool of despair that we seem to be circling.

Stop letting others tell you the sky is falling because it isn’t. The prognosticators and political pundits make money by brainwashing you into their chosen ideology.

Their job is to get you hooked on whatever trash they’re shoveling and make you believe that the other side, whichever side that may be, is the cause of all your problems.

Guess what folks the “other side” isn’t the cause of your problems — you and you alone are the cause!

Optimism will help you see this. You will see your problems as challenges waiting for a solution. It won’t always be easy, but you will know that you can solve whatever problems you encounter.

The pessimist won’t see it this way. They will continue to see the problem as a roadblock that they can’t overcome. Instead of looking for a solution, they will look for someone to blame for the roadblock.

If we take the time to educate ourselves, improve ourselves, and believe in ourselves, no one will be able to stop us.

Final thoughts on this mess

Stop looking for someone or something to blame and instead become part of the solution.

  • If we don’t like the path we are taking as a country, then instead of complaining about it, we should, with an optimistic attitude look to change it.
  • If we don’t like the way we are treated at work, then work towards getting a new and better job. Stop complaining about it and act.
  • If you don’t like the partner you are with, why are you still with them? Don’t complain about it, you aren’t chained to this person. Get up and leave.

From an optimistic point of view, anything is possible. You can change your life and you can change the world.

You just have to believe that you can and stop listening to those that strive to influence you for their own gain.

Until next time…
