If you live in the Los Angeles County or any of the surrounding areas, you probably knew the SoFi Stadium was being built in Inglewood.

But if you’re anything like me, you didn’t realize they finally finished building this huge stadium for sports, entertainment and events.

Yep, that’s right. The Inglewood SoFi Stadium has a lot of cool jobs and all types of opportunities available.

Keep reading and notice what this stadium will mean to residents and those in the neighboring communities, primarily people of color.

What is the SoFi Stadium and Why was it Built?

The new SoFi Stadium is a massive sports and entertainment venue. It’s been nearly an entire century since a stadium has been built of this magnitude in Los Angeles County.

The stadium is now the home of two particular Los Angeles sports teams, namely the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Attached to the stadium for the cost of building it, is a whooping price tag of an estimated $5 billion. This makes the SoFi Stadium the most expensive stadium ever built.

In spite of the mid-September scheduled debut, thanks to COVID once again, the pandemic has managed to put some things on hold.

It is now suspected that fans will most likely have to wait all the way until next year before they can enjoy the newly built stands.

Inglewood will soon be playing host to major sporting events that include the 2022 Super Bowl, as well as the 2023 national championship college games.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is also in the realm of possibility for the stadium, as well as other events, like a portion of the opening and closing 2028 Summer Olympic Games. This privilege they expect to share with the Los Angeles Colosseum.

With such a lofty and prestigious agenda on the horizon, there’ s much for Inglewood residents to look forward to with the new SoFi Stadium.

A Vocational Pathway for People Who Need it

If the past year has done anything, it’s helped to highlight the disproportionate number of jobs and resources for many people in the black and Latinx communities.

That is a major reason why it makes sense that representatives for the new Inglewood stadium would target their search for employees specifically within the Inglewood California area.

Since mid June (2021), Inglewood residents in need of employment have been getting the first crack at jobs being offered by SoFi Stadium.

Many people have enlisted the help of Security Entertainment Retail Vocational Pathway Program, better known as The SERV Program.

Those who participate in The SERV Program are assisted and put on the right path to employment in various fields, including security, entertainment and retail.

Will Anyone Want to Apply for these Jobs?

Just like in 2020, when the pandemic made everything so uncertain; things have yet to settle down and become normal.

That includes the job situation and people making decisions when and if to return to work. This is evident by a recent story I wrote about the current employment crunch that is baffling experts.

In that story, I highlighted statements from a former CBS news report. It spoke about the future of the U.S. as it relates to the labor and employment. In a nutshell, the predicted situation of a “…pending labor shortage in the next two decades…” is virtually upon us.

While the pandemic has been seen as the overall culprit for people failing to return to the workforce, there are also a wide variety of COVID-related reasons.

Some people have found their true calling to be something completely different from what they may have been doing before the pandemic.

Others have decided that life is too short to spend it on a job they dislike or not passionate about. While they may still be searching for what they want, they’ve decided definitively what they don’t want.

Whatever the reasons for the undeniable employment crunch, many employers are finding it difficult to fill vacant positions.

So what does that mean when it comes to hiring for the new SoFi Stadium? Just like so many other things that are still up in the air, no one can truly predict the outcome of the current hiring event.

Since mid June (2021), The SERV Program has been assisting applicants who want to attend the “Virtual Orientations” about the new stadium.

In addition to the final August orientation on the 20th of the month, virtual orientations are also scheduled until the end of the year. The final virtual orientation will be held December 10, 2021.

  • Orientations are set to provide the following assistance:
  • Provide detailed sessions on working for SoFi Stadium
  • Provide details about the The SERV Pathway Program
  • Provide details on how to complete and obtain necessary state certifications and credentials that employers require.
  • Provide access to employers, job coordinators, and various outreach members
  • Provide access to available training partners
  • Provide a conduit between employers and local residents

With the aid and guiding assistance from The SERV Program, it is believed that Inglewood residents in need of employment will continue applying for the stadium jobs, just as they are currently doing.

But there is one more thing to be concerned about, even as individuals attend the orientations and prepare to apply for the high number of positions available. Now that they’ve built it, will they really come?

Will People Want to Go to the Stadium

The pandemic is threatening to delay the explosive opening the stadium was no doubt set to have. But there’s no lack of anticipation for what will eventually be hosted in the new Inglewood arena.

From all indications, sports fans are more than ready for the stands to open back up, regardless of what some skeptics may be saying.

The skeptics haven’t been kind when weighing in on the movie going industry and what to expect for the future of going to the theater.

Movie going hesitancy is a real thing. It’s directly connected to the on again off again mask mandates, and problematic virus strains like the Delta variant.

But even with all this in mind, some experts doubt that purchasing or renting movies to view at home will be able to replace the overall movie going experience.

Besides that, people are just ready to get out, even if just for a little while, and going to entertainment and sporting events (under safe conditions) is able to provide a much needed release.

Final Thoughts

The SoFi Stadium represents good news for the Inglewood community and the mostly low income residents who are predominately people of color.

With the stadium finally being completed and ready to occupy as soon as it is safe to do so the city can continue preparing for what the new future of Inglewood will look like. Hopefully, the city’s prosperity will eventually mirror the massive size of their new stadium.

If you happen to live in the Inglewood California area, be sure to let someone who may be looking for work know about these jobs.

Given the uncertainty of the current COVID related situation that we find ourselves in, it is clear that not everyone will feel comfortable applying for a stadium job. They may fear working in this type of customer service environment.

But those vaccinated individuals who believe the reward outweighs the risk, they will find this particular pathway to employment wide open.
