ARE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TOO STUPID FOR DEMOCRACY?
WHY OUR REPUBLIC MAY NOT SURVIVE
Winston Churchill helped save democracy from fascism. He said, “Democracy is a very bad form of government, but all those others are so much worse”.
He also said, “The best argument against democracy is a 5-minute talk with the average voter”.
A woman asked Benjamin Franklin, when he left the Constitutional Convention, “Dr. Franklin, What type of government do we have?”
He answered, “A republic, if you can keep it.”
Some say the best form of government is a benevolent dictatorship. The people can’t be trusted. But we have no guarantee the dictator will stay benevolent.
Many people are unconscious of what’s going on in our politics & government, despite numerous sources of information from T.V., the internet, & other places.
We have the famous “low information voter” all over the land, being bullshitted up by right-wing disinformation to vote against their own interests.
Trump said, “I love poorly educated voters.”
WHAT MACHIAVELLI SAID — This brilliant political thinker, author of “The Prince” & “The Discourses”, said the people are a bunch of dorks who want contradictory things & basically don’t know what they want.
They need The Prince to straighten things out & tell them what they want.
Things haven’t changed much since Machiavelli’s time, except now we have professional propagandists working for sinister billionaires in this country or foreign mind fuckers to confuse things further.
THE FOUNDING FATHERS FEARED THE TYRANNY OF THE MOB.
They formed not a democracy, but a representative republic, a plutocracy run by gentlemen of property like themselves. Much of the property many of them owned was slaves, even though they spoke nobly of liberty & democracy.
Women, Blacks, Native Americans were excluded from power in their new republic, as well as white men who didn’t own wealth or property.
The Founding Fathers feared the tyranny of kings, but they feared the tyranny of the mob even more.
They were gentlemen of the Enlightenment. Most of them believed in the power of reason.
The mob, they felt, does not operate on reason but on brute passion of the moment. The people could not be trusted to make decisions.
So, they entrusted power to legislatures, eliminating direct influence. Legislatures could be easily controlled by moneyed interests.
They set up the House of Representatives, which was supposed to reflect the influence of the people, but they also set up The Senate, a sort of House of Lords where the passions of the people would go to cool, like pouring hot tea from a cup into a saucer.
They compromised by giving each state 2 senators, regardless of population size, screwing up our politics to this day, as small, underpopulated states have too much influence in our national life.
They set up the Electoral College to appease the slaveholding south, where Blacks were 3/5ths of a person, but also to remove the people from power. Legislatures decided, not the people.
America proudly presented itself as a democracy through all the changes, The Civil War, the enfranchisement of women, the Civil Rights Movement.
But below the surface always brewed the conflict between power & the mob.
WHAT WE FACE NOW —
Now our so-called democracy comes to a decision. The Trump MAGA Movement mobilizes the morons among us. We must choose between liberty & fascism.
With Trump, we have more red flags flying than a Chinese Communist Parade.
But will the dummies understand the danger they are in or will the republic our ancestors fought to preserve die?
Politicians are adept at telling voters they are the font of all wisdom, but insiders know the majority of them are manipulated fools.
Were the Founding Fathers right? Maybe nincompoops shouldn’t have any real power.
I hope more people will wake up from their torpor & save us from this pending disaster.
