Are Human Beings Indispensable? Will They Leave a Void in the World After Death?

LIFE IS A GIFT OF GOD. Each day we live is a gift of God… So thank God when you wake up in the morning for another day of life…and thank God in the evening for getting you through the day.

I give here an excerpt from my book “ Want to Know God: For Young and Old.”……………..

The enlightened saint recited a poem:

Sometimes when you are feeling important;

Sometimes when your ego is in bloom;

Sometimes when you take life for granted;

Sometimes when you feel that you are the most qualified person;

Sometimes when you feel that if I quit my job;

It would leave a big hole and vacuum in the world;

Sometimes when you feel that nobody else can replace you;

Then just follow these simple instructions;

And see how your ego is humbled;

Take a bucket and fill it with water;

Put your hand in the water up to your elbow;

Pull out your hand from the water;

And the hole that remains in the water;

Is a measure of how much you will be missed in the world;

With your hands in the bucket;

You can frantically stir and splash the water galore;

But stop, and you will find that in no time;

Water finds its level, and it is the same as before;

The moral of this experiment is simple;

Just do your duty in life as best as you can;

Be proud of yourself but remember;

There is no indispensable man or woman in the world.

Everything in the world is temporary;

Everything in the world arises and passes away;

Human beings are all mortal men and women;

We are all born to die one day;

But it is better to die in glory after fulfilling our destiny;

Human beings may live up to eighty, ninety or hundred years;

But they will certainly die one day;

Therefore, remember God at all times;

Spirit of God is the ultimate abode for all;

Be happy and be grateful while you are alive;

God gave us the chance to fulfil our destiny;

Enjoy your life within the limits of Dharma;

But always remember that this world is a temporary home;

We all have to finally go to the yonder unseen regions;

We will carry only the merits of our good deeds with us;

Our house, women, children and bank balance will remain behind;

Only our good and bad karma will be carried forward;

Do not haggle or bargain with God;

God is in heaven and we are on earth:

Spirit of God is all-powerful and knows our inner being;

Being smart and clever for selfish reasons is not liked by God;

God is near with our innocence and sincere prayers;

Be humble in life as God hates hypocrisy and lies;

We cannot fool God by pleasing fake holy-men and saints;

Our currency notes of money have no value in heaven;

God is not for sale, and He knows our innermost heart;

And always remember there is no indispensable man or woman.

What does Bhagavad Gita say?

Bhagavad Gita: “Non-attachment, non-identification and clinging with son, wife, home, etc (near and dear ones and the possessions); and also keeping equanimity and sameness in desirable as well as unfortunate happenings in life.” (Book: Word of God Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 13 verse 9)

Transliteration from Sanskrit to English: asaktih : — non-attachment; anabhishvangah: — non-identification; putra: — son/daughter; dara: — wife; griha-adishu: — home and other possessions; nityam: — constant; cha: — and; sama-chittatvam: — even-minded/equanimity; ishta: — desirable; anishta: — unfortunate happenings; upapattishu: — happening/occurrence

The above verse implies that in order to attach with God consciousness, one has to detach from all earthly clinging of relationships and objects which are dear to a person.

It does not mean that a person is indifferent to one’s relatives and friends, but it means that a Self-realized saint has no preferential treatment for one’s relatives and dear ones, but treats everyone equally, as just the same.

Other scriptures also say the same truth. —Adi Shankaracharya says in Bhaja Govindam, “Thus enquire! Who am I? Who are you? From where did I come from? Who is my mother? Who is my father? This world is made up of dreams and leaving aside the world of experiences, thus engage in enquiry.”

Bible says, “Someone said to Him, behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You. But Jesus answered and said, ‘Who is My mother and who are My brothers?’ And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, ‘Behold My mother and My brothers!’… Pointing to his disciples, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers.’ — -He that loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me.”

In the above Bible passage, Jesus Christ implied that all those who follow the spiritual teaching are like his mother, father, brothers and sisters; and not those who are merely his biological mother, brothers and sisters.
