Are Freelance Jobs The New Economy?
We see it, the prices of everything have gone up! It is downright scary. People work two jobs in one way or another to meet their basic needs.
Is there a shift in the economy?
Is there a shift in employment trends?
According to a study done by Upwork Inc., more than 1/3 of American Workers have turned to freelance jobs.
This could be due to greater flexibility of working extra hours or to supplement their income, or they established enough in their own business that it becomes their total time income.
Is this expected when one has a full-time job and freelances on the side to make ends meet?
I know that, as a single parent of two teenage boys, I work full time, and I started earning an income here on Medium to supplement my income. In my situation, being able to write when I can write and not having to work set hours on a 2nd job does help tremendously with the demands of being a parent. Also, if my kids need me, I can stop what I am doing and provide for their needs.
Working trends change, and I wonder if this is going to be an ongoing thing that a worker will have a primary full-time job and a 2nd job to increase their income. It appears to be more common nowadays. There is no doubt that we are living in an economy, but it seems the gig economy is forced to provide basic living needs.
Buckle up, my friends. It is going to be one wild ride.
