In his 1950 seminal paper “Computing Machinery and Intelligence”. British computer scientist Alan Turing, decrypted German intelligence messages for the British government during the Second World War with the help of Polish Computer Scientists.
Computer Scientist Allan Turing was in charge of Hut 8, a section at Bletchley Park (the British World War II codebreaking station) tasked with solving encoded German naval messages and crack open the German Enigma machine. The Enigma machine was developed in Germany shortly after World War I to encode and decode messages, and for the next 20 years the German military refined the technology until it became the Nazis’ primary means of ciphering messages during WWII.
Without Turing’s efforts and those of his Hut 8 team, the Allies would have continued to face a severe disadvantage against the German military’s superior ciphering technology.
Though it’s impossible to quantify the exact impact of Allan Turing the Computer Scientist’s contributions, some historians estimate that the World War II would have continued for at least another two years, and two million more lives would have been lost. “Without the ability to break German codes to determine the locations of U-boats, the Allies may very well have lost the Battle of the Atlantic, and quite possibly the war.” — Forbes
Computer Science rules the world silently. And we all know this. Data is the next oil, privacy is power. Both of these are in the hands of Computer Scientists. Its about how to gain and how to reign and train the grains to absorb more rains, and a battle of brains to explain the mundane phenomena’s chain again and again and again till this beautiful dance of electricity seems sane and humane and not so like a plane in a hurricane, inane.
Its the dance of electricity on your fingertips that rips and drips intelligence in its silicon cores till the magic of electrons makes an anthropoid reflect upon. Is pressing buttons so difficult to you? Then wave your hand. Is speaking difficult for you? Then let us read your mind. Is driving difficult for you? Then let us drive for you. So you can laugh with your two year old and look at your family and smile while we teleport you through the roads and loads of traffic at top speeds.
