The way Medium compensate has changed. People will give you compensation according to their reading time on their dashboard, earlier that depended on claps.

Yet change is an important part of life. And medium partner program is not different from this.

Medium is always changing its algorithm and as well as its compensation system. Previously making money on the Medium by claps was favourable for a poet like me, But that honeymoon period over and I landed in reading time period.

Though I accepted the change and Didn’t stop writing on this platform because this platform is far beautiful and profitable than starting your own blog.

Are claps are really important on the medium?

It was fantastic for me to see the cheering and clapping and it showed maybe not all of them want me out of a job!

Clap actually increase your reading time as the member stays on page clapping for your article. It is not a huge difference but every second is important for us fellow writers. Only we know how we struggle.

Claps also indicates how many people liked that article and it will be detected by the medium algorithm. The medium algorithm works the same as a social media algorithm. As the medium is a social media platform, we should use it in that way only.

Claps are just like likes on Instagram and Facebook. More claps mean your article will be shown to more medium members and your reading time automatically increase.

But there is a twist here if your article is non curated then will this method helps. My answer to this is yes. Focus on audience make loyal 1000 medium followers and forget that I am very vocal about these things.

It is known as curiosity and it will get more claps on it as it is entertaining you from bottom to top.and algorithm will pick up your this story. The algorithm knows which things member read obey your algorithm it will make you reach. Understand the system and apply it to. Your writing. One day you will thank me.

Clap system is beneficial in many ways it is a direct indicator of story success and story popularity up to some extend it is directly related to your medium earning. Do one thing go to your stats and see the more claps your medium article has more you are going to earn.

What are ways to Increase claps for your medium story?

Curiosity

Increase curiosity of your reader don’t write formal or essay writing for example if you are writing about ‘ What happened at my last day of the solo trip’ write last moment first and then go back and start from first. Make your audience curious.

Entertain

Whether it is a movie or it is writing entertain your reader. Add lines and attractive words also entertain them like the movie. Write like you they are watching moving add trill to it and sorrow ness makes your story speak.

Educate

You have to give some lesson to your reader. For example, if you are writing about a solo trip then don’t write only about your experience instead add some lines which educate them. write a story with lessons. Which teach writers something life-changing. but don’t suggest them directly. reader don’t like suggestions. they come here to hear from you!

Add Attractive titles

Titles Play important role in your story. If you are writing about your solo travelling journey don’t write What I have learned in My first solo travelling. instead, write ‘ What happens at last day in my solo travelling. That makes a difference. The title is everything keep it in mind.

You will get more claps if followed above principle it is easy just apply and see.

Claps Vs Read Ratio

Many writers compare their medium stat with views but I researched my own Stat and what I found is your earning is not proportional to your medium Views but actually read to clap Ratio.

There are three types of reader come to your story.

First one is who click on your story and read for a few seconds and then left immediately.

The second one is Who read your story till the end of clap.

the third group is who reads, clap, and response that makes difference it will increase your reading time.

Just focus on reading verses claps ratio. In blogging terms, we call it a bouncing ratio. Apply some google analytics knowledge here.

Who suffered more from changing Medium way of paying for reading time instead of claps?

Many popular writers get affected because if the writer is a popular reader will clap insane. many writers were affected by this newsy stem.

The writers who write fiction, as well as short stories and poetry, are affected most. For example, if you write one poem of 100 words which can make you thousands of claps but very short read the time.
