Arcane
Chapter 0 of a serialized Supernatural Series

Prologue
Mykel hid in the dark, peaking around the corner of a closed smoke shop, in between messages with her big brother, Quinton. Being only fifteen, her brother was also on the fence over her. She understood though. She was the youngest out of five kids, four boys and only one girl, with Quinton being the oldest.
Quinton started off with a message, asking are you okay? Where are you? He didn’t even give Mykel the opportunity to answer, as he followed up immediately with another message that said, i’m heading your way.
Mykel already knew that Quinton could track her. He didn’t need her to tell him the location of where she was if he wanted to find her. It was two-thirty eight in the morning, so of course her eldest brother would be anxious knowing she was still outside.
Mykel took a quick glance around the building before sending a reply. Her reply said no, i’m fine Quin. Mykel had a knack for giving her brothers nicknames. It shouldn’t take long with this hunt. It’s only one vampire. Mykel took another glance around the corner. I’m going home right after this.
Quinton immediately responded, indicating that he was sitting right in front of his cellphone, waiting for every reply she sent.
Fine. Quinton replied. Just make sure you text me baby sis when you’re done. I love you.
Wanting to focus, Mykel rushed her response, replying with, I will bro. Love you too.
Mykel put her phone away, gripping her dagger as she heard footsteps dip into a puddle on the street. Peaking around the building that was keeping her identity covered, Mykel saw her target. A man walked past her without notice, being close enough for Mykel to see the smeared blood on the top of his right hand as the street light bounced onto him.
The man kept his left hand in his jacket, looking back and forth as if he was already paranoid. Mykel quickly came to an assumption, just by his body language. He had to be a freshly turned vampire. Maybe not even a week into his transformation. He was a messy eater for starters, with fresh blood still on his hands and in his beard. As well as how suspicious he was looking, being more paranoid than any drug addict that she had ever seen. There was also the attention he drew to himself by walking in the opening, instead of remaining in the shadows as she had done.
The vampire headed down a sewer hole, with Mykel following after him, though keeping a safe distance.
Leaving the sewer hole open for her escape, Mykel creeps down the ladder, softly dipping into the thin sewer water, avoiding being heard. The vampire is seen walking further ahead of her, making a right turn down the wide sewer tunnel, into another tunnel.
Mykel tightens her face up, covering her nose with her left hand as she struggled to hold in her gags from the smell that was traveling through the sewer walls. It wasn’t a smell of only shit and garbage, but death as well. Mykel had wiffed the smell of dead bodies before, though this smell was extremely strong, indicating that there had to be more than one body stored somewhere. Though following the trail of the vampire that was ahead of her, Mykel was confused. Vampires weren’t known to store their food. Especially not newly turned vampires. Vampires usually attacked their victims and drained them right then and there, avoiding bringing any of their food to their hideouts.
Mykel fully drew her dagger, keeping her wrist now over her nose as she barely made her way to the corner of the tunnel where the vampire had made a right detour. Mykel appreciated the bright orange scene of the sewers, with the lights inside of the sewers allowing her to keep her nose covered instead of having to turn on the flashlight of her cellphone.
Mykel made it around the corner of the tunnel, but was brought to a moment of confusion. The vampire she had been stalking was now propped up against the wall, looking in her direction in pain as blood left a freshly opened wound on his stomach area. His guts were literally being held in his right hand, as he groaned in pain with gasp in between. He looked helpless, sitting against the sewer wall struggling in what looked like tons of pain.
Mykel cautiously approached the vampire, who seemed to barely be able to speak, let alone move at this point. Her mind raced, fearing what could have taken this vampire down, as she was only seconds behind the blood sucker. She was confused. She didn’t know whether to finish the vampire, or help it. It was like a supernatural animal had attacked him.
The vampire struggled to push air out of its mouth, though Mykel had an extremely difficult time making out what it was saying. Raising her dagger the closer and closer she got to the vampire, Mykel watched the creature of darkness raise his shaking hand and point behind her, more towards above her. Mykel stopped in her tracks, hearing something snarl in the same direction the vampire pointed.
Slowly turning around, something of swift speed slammed into Mykel, knocking her to the ground before she could get a good look at her attacker. Hitting her head on the hard surface in the sewer floor, blood quickly split from her forehead as her dagger slid out of her hand and she went unconscious.
The wounded vampire’s eyes shot up wide as the attacker sprinted with high speed into his direction, with a trail of blood smacking into the wall beside him.
