WRITING PROMPT
April Writing Prompts: April Foals!
April Fool! Hey … wait?! Who’s the fool now?
Ahoy landlubbers and April Fool’s to you!
Our great prank of the month is publishing these prompts two days too late. It could also be that life interfered, and I am making a lousy excuse. Rumour has it Rayne Sanning did most of the work for these prompts anyway.
Prompt 1: April Fool’s Day!
It’s April 1st, and a trickster god or goddess of your choice has set their sights on your main character. What has the MC done to deserve this kind of attention? How will they respond to it? Will they turn the tables on the god/goddess? Is it a harmless prank, or does the trickster deity indulge in literal gallows humour? Will the tricks turn deadly for the MC before they can do anything?
Service announcement: You can find some tricksters to choose from here but feel free to select a different one as well.
Prompt 2: National Unicorn Day! (April 9th)
A unicorn is alone in a big city, trying to get its population to celebrate national unicorn day. Why does the unicorn want to “convert” the people to believe in unicorns again? Is it a foal that has to finish a school assignment? Do they go door-to-door? Put up flyers? Talk to people in the street? Does anyone care about national unicorn day, or are they too busy with something else? Does the celebration happen? What does it look like?
A few things to consider:
- Feel free to use these prompts to inspire your writing, and consider publishing your story in The Kraken Lore.
- Please, use the tag “The Kraken Lore” so the Kraken Crew (and our editors Bradan Writes Stories, Rayne Sanning, Jonathon Sawyer, and Jay C Wells!) can easily find them.
- Challenge your fellow writers if you like! Don’t you know how that works? Here is an example: “I challenge Christine Graves and JF Danskin to write a response to one of the above prompts.”
Did this editor publish the monthly prompt two days too late and try to cover it up with such a half-baked intro blurb? Punish him on Ko-fi and Patreon or by (re-)joining Medium with his referral link. For every US$1 in April 2023, he must write a drabble about April Fool’s!
If you join Medium with this editor’s referral link, you can enjoy all his fictional tales and those of other writers. Subscribe to his email list, and you will be the first to notice when he forgets a monthly prompt again!
