Appreciating The Things That Won’t Last

After completing my bachelor’s degree, I took a year off to think about what I wanted to do next. I knew that I wanted to pursue a master’s degree but was unsure if I should study abroad.
During this year, I came to realize that I missed studying — the emotions before exams, the late nights of studying, attending classes, and meeting colleagues.
Now, I had my first exam after that year-long break, but I didn’t study much for it.
After feeling like I would fail, I asked myself why I was doing this when I had been waiting for this moment — to relive the emotions of exams and the studying process.
We often take for granted the things happening in our lives, forgetting that it won’t last, and one day, we will miss having what we have now.
Wherever you find yourself in life, remember that it’s temporary.
If something beautiful is happening, seize the moment; if you’re going through difficult times, look to the future with hope.
You never know when it’s the last time you do something,
- the last time you eat your favorite meal, thinking it’s your favorite, considering our taste changes over time,
- the last time you feel the stress of an exam,
- the last time you cry over a situation,
- the last time you kiss someone,
- the last time you see your parents,
- the last time you are alive…
I believe that with awareness of these things, life becomes more manageable, and we then develop a deeper sense of gratitude for our current circumstances and position in life.
What was the last thing you did for the last time?
