Why you should consider being a volunteer at GHC as part of the Hoppers Program
I have shared my experience attending GHC for multiple years in the past in previous articles, here and here.
Today, I want to highlight the opportunity to attend GHC in Orlando, FL, as a volunteer.
There are many benefits of being a volunteer for GHC:
- Networking and connecting with other women in tech that are helping build the world’s largest event for women in computing
- Leadership and communication skills
- Giving back to the community and being able to pay forward
- Attending the sessions in your free time
- Complimentary ticket to attend GHC
As a Hopper, you can help with the logistics of the event, with the sessions, with the participants, in the Open Source Day, with speakers, and assisting the participants throughout the day.
When answering the question: “Please explain why you want to be a Hopper and what makes you a good candidate”, make sure to highlight:
- Your understanding that you will become part of a large community of women in tech
- Your past volunteer experiences and why you like volunteering in events
- Your passion for being an advocate for women in computing

- May 1, 2023: Application Opens
- TODAY: July 7, 2023: Application Closes
- Week of July 17, 2023: Application status sent.
- September (Exact day and time TBD): Virtual Hopper Training for all in-person and virtual Hoppers
- September 26, 2023: In-Person Hopper Orientation
- September 27–29: Event & Hopper Assignments
