Apple’s Tracker Detect App Is Not Fixing The Problem.

Modified AirTags are still posing a great threat to unaware victims

Open AirTag

Not so long time ago Apple released an Android app that is meant to help these platform users find AirTags in their surroundings. The application wasn’t released until users started expressing their anger about potentially unwanted spying.

Easy hacking

The removal process of the AirTag’s speaker is super easy and makes it dead silent forever. Of course, if placed close to an iOS device it will eventually notify the user about suspicious tags traveling along with them.

Android users are not so safe

App created by Apple requires users to start bug sweeping manually. It’s not a system service like on iOS where the system itself is constantly checking for suspicious tags.

Finding the tag

I tried the Tracker Detect app and my tag was found within a few minutes. The app displayed information, that after 10 minutes, I will be able to play sound on it!

Tag was connected, but with no speaker makes it a silent concert.

Silence of AirTags

AirTag with the removed speaker is detectable but remains silent. Even with the Tracker Detect app on Android, you are not able to locate it accurately like on newer iPhones with ultra-wideband connectivity.

The Problem remains unsolved!

It is unclear how Apple will fix this issue(and if they will ever admit the problem).

For now, you can only be careful to check for unknown AirTags in your surroundings and don’t dismiss notifications on your phone about some tag around you.

Android users need to do the same but with manual checks from time to time with the Tracker Detect app.
