Summary

Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 is rumored to feature a vertical dual-camera system, a new shooting button, and hardware upgrades including an A18 chip and potentially 8 GB of RAM, while the standard models may retain a 60Hz screen refresh rate.

Abstract

The iPhone 16 line, expected to be released by Apple in the fall, has been the subject of leaks suggesting significant design changes. These include a vertically oriented rear camera module, reminiscent of a blend between the iPhone X and iPhone 11 designs, and the introduction of a new shooting button on the device's side. The camera system is said to support spatial video shooting, aligning with the technology introduced in the Apple Vision Pro. Hardware improvements are also anticipated, with the standard iPhone 16 potentially featuring an A18 chip, an increase in RAM from 6 GB to 8 GB, and the possibility of Pro Motion adaptive refresh rate screens remaining exclusive to the Pro models. Despite these upgrades, some consumers are expressing disappointment over the standard models' expected continuation of a 60Hz screen refresh rate, a feature they hoped would be improved from the previous iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models.

Opinions

  • The design changes, particularly the vertical camera arrangement, are seen as a fusion of past iPhone models, potentially to accommodate spatial video shooting capabilities.
  • The new shooting button's purpose is to enhance video capture, though there is debate over whether it will be capacitive or mechanical.
  • Some users are excited about the conceptualization of the iPhone 16, anticipating its compatibility with new technology like spatial video shooting.
  • Despite the hardware upgrades, there is dissatisfaction among consumers that the standard iPhone 16 models might not include a Pro Motion adaptive refresh rate screen, a feature they consider important for a premium viewing experience.
  • The leaks and design summaries shared by external blogger Ma Jin Bu have raised expectations, but the accuracy of this information is yet to be confirmed, as past predictions have varied in reliability.

Apple’s New iPhone 16 Design Reveals Vertical Camera and New Shot Bar

iPhone users, find your next upcoming iPhone 😁.

Apple will unveil its new iPhone 16 line this fall, but news of the new device has been leaked to the public even though it is still more than half a year away. As early as last year, in my articles related to it, some reports showed that the two standard models, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, would feature a redesigned rear dual-camera system, a vertical arrangement, and the addition of a new shooting button.

Recently leaked renderings once again confirm the possibility of this design change.

Ma Jin Bu, an external blogger, recently shared a so-called design summary of the iPhone 16.

However, I need to mention that although this person often broke the latest developments in Apple, the accuracy of its information remains to be verified.

From this outline, the standard iPhone 16 has at least two significant form factor changes.

The rear camera module

First, the rear camera module is arranged vertically and uses a protruding shape that appears to be a fusion of the iPhone X and iPhone 11. The flashlight remains located on the right.

A shooting button

The second notable change appears on the right side of the device’s bezel, with a shooting button below the power button.

There are still some conflicting rumors about the specific design of this button, with one saying it will be capacitive while the other pointing to it as a traditional mechanical button.

This new button will be helpful in shooting video (including spatial video).

Some users have made the latest iPhone 16 conceptualization and then had a look at it:

  • The standard iPhone 16 uses a vertically arranged lens mainly to support space video shooting. With the launch of the Apple Vision Pro, it is clear that Apple is looking to its existing product line to be compatible with the new technology, which uses master cameras and ultra-wide-angle lenses to achieve spatial video shooting, making the vertical lens design an almost small change.
  • While there appear to be few cosmetic changes, including keeping the Dynamic Island, the width of the screen border, and the same body material as the previous generation, the iPhone 16 standard version undergoes significant hardware upgrades.

In addition to the lens improvements, the device will be equipped with a more powerful A18 chip (while the 16 Pro version may have an A18 Pro chip), and the RAM may be able to upgrade from 6 GB to 8 GB.

Many consumers have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of a Pro Motion adaptive refresh rate screen in the iPhone 15 or 15 Plus, which may still exist in the iPhone 16 or 16 Plus, and that both will continue to use a 60Hz screen refresh rate.

What changes do you expect to see in this year’s iPhone 16? And what do you think about this design?
