Apparently You Can Break Medium

By publishing too much.

I’m not a bot. I just write a lot

I have posted typewritten pages every day for the last year. I do it religiously. Not to brag, or boast, or compete with anyone. I do it for my children. Writing supports my goal and purpose, which is to be reunited with them.

Restrictions hinder writers

Today I published a number of articles on Medium. I wrote my typewritten pages last, and when I went to publish, Medium placed a limit on how much I could release in a given day.

No, actually this is NOT okay. Photo by author.

Right now it’s 12:04 AM.

I tried to publish my typewritten pages from yesterday since midnight. They still won’t post. I’m trying over and over. The restriction has not been lifted.

EDIT: The restriction was lifted at 10 AM after I sent a request to Medium. They responded right away. Either that or the timer on my restrictions ended. I’d like to think it was customer service.

This all may sound obsessive

Try to understand. I have been writing at least ten typewritten pages, every day, consistently for over a year. It is obsessive. And there’s a purpose behind this that goes beyond saturating Medium for views and coin.

I’m leaving an empire of literature for my children

I write for my children. For unification of family. And no matter what happens, I shall accomplish this. It began with 42 typewritten novels written last year. It was record-breaking.

I wouldn’t be writing this article if a warning came from Medium telling me I am only allowed to publish one more article

Or something to that effect. Nope. No warning. Nothing.

In addition, Medium restricted the number of comments I could leave for other writers, to the point where I’ve decided to just write articles now for each and every comment that was denied.

This is a blessing in disguise

Yep, from now on, you can expect me to pay homage to my favorite writers with articles written for them instead of writing in their comments section. It seems this is what Medium wants me to do by restricting my comments. I can take a hint.

I didn’t set out to break Medium

I repeat: I am not a bot. I am a dedicated writer. These restrictions messed up something important, and I don’t want it to happen again. I pay for this service.

I’m not asking for anything special

Please make it so that paying members can publish as much as they want when they want. Or put in a warning system so that writers get a message if we get close to hitting the daily limit. That shouldn’t be difficult to program.

Don’t make bots the excuse to hit writers with restrictions

Humans are the life force here. Not bots. Serve the members.

I post substance

I work hard. Cranking out over 10,000 words of copy daily now between typewritten pages and articles on Medium, and there needs to be an understanding that this type of writer exists and is active on the platform.

Hi. I’m right here. Just so there’s no more mistaking me for a bot. A bot cannot write and scan typewritten pages on a typewriter from the 1950s with penciled illustrations.

My behavior as a writer is consistent

I do this for authenticity purposes. My pages are dated and time-stamped for a reason. I promise to have them done before midnight, and they get done. My daily pages should come as no surprise to anyone.

Please just lift the restrictions for members

I’m not asking for a special favor here. I want to publish my work. All of it. At the time I want. Please don’t make me wait. Or my readers. This reduces the quality of the service Medium offers its community. And quality service is what keeps people coming back for more.

Alright, I’m letting this go now. Thank you for reading. And I’m happy to see this article get the green light.
