Summarize

The flowers of Tipuana tipu. This and all photos of this story by the author, Luciano Abriata.

Ants love the yellow flowers of this South American tree

On preparing a story about trees along the Paraná river (you’ve already known a few, but there are more!) I realized that this one deserved a special chapter.

I found my readers quite interested in two previous stories about flowering trees native to South America, based on photos I shot in my home city, Rosario (Argentina):

Therefore, I began to write a story presenting all the trees a citizen or tourist of Rosario will see around, capitalizing on the many photos I took in my last visit. On writing that story, which you’ll see out soon, I realized that there was something special to say about Tipuana tipu.

Native to South America and growing splendidly near the shores of the Paraná river, Tipuana tipu (“Tipa” for us in Spanish) blooms abundantly with yellow flowers.

Here is a grown-up specimen growing right by the shore of the river:

And here is a group of four trees inland -in fact, these are in a park:

Isn’t this tree beautiful? And not only that; besides, it gives excellent shade for the hard sunny days of summer!

The flowers and the ants

Here are two close shots of flowers of Tipa trees:

By some reason, ants love these flowers. They cut their petals and carry them into their nests, as I can attest after I followed many of them in their hikes:

If you like flowers in general, check out the Colorful flowers section of this story:

And stay tuned for the story summarizing other trees you can find along the shore of this river. You’ve already seen Jacarandas, Drunken Trees, and Tipas. I still have a few more, including Argentina’s national tree, the Ombú, and the tree that blooms Argentina’s national flower, the Ceibo.
