Anti Feminism is Code for “Full of Sh*t!”
No woman’s strength weakens you
I grew up around strong women who were feminists out of necessity. The barefoot and pregnant philosophy was not an option in our poor neighborhood. It had to be all hands on deck. Every dollar, every nickel was needed when a family struggled from month to month.
When the factory or the construction company laid off a father, it was the wife’s cleaning the homes of the rich or selling plates of fried fish from her own kitchen, that kept the family, including the mighty husband, from starving.
Today there are men stupid enough to believe that a man’s strength requires the presence of a weak woman, that each woman educated or promoted at work has taken something from them. They believe that a woman cannot be strong and accomplished in her own right, but that her power must be stolen from a man. They see no sin in a woman being paid seventy cents to every dollar a man earns for doing the exact same job. They are fools.
They long for the days of yesteryear when restaurants had “White’s Only” signs out front and a man could legally rape his wife. These were the days when men were the unquestioned leaders of the home and the country.
But of all the poorest, most desperate countries in the world, the one thing they all have in common is the subjugation of women. It’s simple mathematics really. If you take half of the people in your country and relegate them to some inferior status compared to the other half, you are working with half the country you actually have, half as strong as you could be.
Half of the great minds of your country are actually not allowed to live up to their full potential. Half of those who could’ve been great scientists or great writers or great doctors, are left to host dinner parties and laugh at their husband’s stupid ass jokes.
These men like to point to traditionalism and religion as justification for their sexism, but none of them are on board for instituting the biblical death penalty for adultery.
These men believe they have some right over the woman, over the mother, to lead the household, that their word should be the last word, even if they are wrong, even if the woman has a better idea, even if she’s smarter than them.
But I am a man, a smart man, a strong man, and I’ve never been made any less intelligent by the presence of an accomplished, intelligent woman in my life. I’ve never been made weak by the presence of a genuinely strong woman in my life. I have been made stronger by the strong women I’ve known. I’ve been made smarter by the things intelligent women have taught me that I didn’t already know.
There is no sin in feminism. We should all be feminists. Every father should want to know that his own daughter won’t end up trapped in an abusive relationship because she’s afraid she won’t be able to make it on her own. Every parent should want to feel more secure in their son’s future, knowing he has a strong capable partner by his side.
The request and expectation of equal treatment within the society is not an attack on men. It is what any human being should be able to expect in a fair and just society. It is what every man in the world hopes for. And it is no more the right of men than of women.
As a man, there is no woman whose strength can make me weak. There is no woman whose intelligence can make me into a fool. There is no woman who needs to belittle herself to lift me up.
I think back to those days of my childhood when many men would not have survived without strong women. Even now, in the midst of a pandemic, I know lots of men who would not survive these days without the strong, smart women in their lives.
Where would the arts and sciences, medicine and technology be without the contributions of women. We see what the world of politics has become in the hands of men. We see sickness and death, war and poverty at the hands of men, yet they say what’s wrong with the world is that we need more men leading it.
If you talk about making a nation great, if you call yourself a patriot, become what our forefathers weren’t smart enough to be. Become the first nation in human history to truly treat its women as equals, and you will soar to the highest heights. Then we will be a nation deserving of praise and admiration. Then we will be a nation of truly strong men.
