COVID-19
Anthony Fauci Needs Your Help
Coronavirus researchers are looking for healthy volunteers to help study undetected cases
Like many of us, I’m stuck at home. And I get that’s the most important thing I can do to help keep all of us healthy. But it just feels so… passive.
So yesterday I emailed [email protected] sign up for a study of undetected coronavirus cases.
Researchers at the National Institutes of Health are looking for 10,000 healthy adults in the U.S. who haven’t been diagnosed with COVID-19 and don’t currently have symptoms.
In the study’s news release, Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), says:
“This study will give us a clearer picture of the true magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States by telling us how many people in different communities have been infected without knowing it, because they had a very mild, undocumented illness or did not access testing while they were sick.”
If you’re selected as a volunteer you will:
- Have a virtual clinic visit
- Complete a health questionnaire
- Provide information on race, ethnicity, sex, age, and occupation
- Submit a blood sample from a finger prick taken at home or at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland
Researchers will analyze this information to determine how many people have antibodies to the disease.
The results will help them understand how the coronavirus has spread in the U.S., and who it affects the most.
“These crucial data will help us measure the impact of our public health efforts now and guide our COVID-19 response moving forward.” — Fauci
Volunteers’ identities will be kept private. If you participate, you may be able to get your own test results, but it could be months before they are available.
If you would like to enroll, email [email protected].
