Abstract

So here’s to the years, both tough and grand,

To the moments that didn’t go as planned. For they’ve shaped me, in ways unforeseen, Into someone, I’m proud to have been.

“Happy birthday to us,” I say with a grin, Ready for whatever the world may spin. For with each year, I’m more than I seem, Another year older, another dream.

As the day unfolds, I hold dear This internal monologue is crystal clear. For it’s not just about adding years to life, But life to years, amidst joy and strife.

So cheers to the wisdom, to the laughter and tears, To the past and the future, to our hopes and fears. For in this journey of ageing, there’s so much to expect, Another year older, another year, perfect.

|| C.J. Coop © 2024. Birthday morning breaks, cold and bright, “Another year on the clock,” I muse, wrapped tight. Coffee in hand, I stare out at the dawn, Contemplating the year that’s gone.

“Remember when we used to dread getting older?” My reflection smirks, a tad bit bolder. “But look at us now, embracing each year, Finding in each a reason to cheer.”

The pages of my diary, fluttering in the breeze, Hold tales of triumphs and of knees that freeze. “Ah, the lessons we’ve learnt,” I whisper to the wind, “Of love, of loss, where we’ve been pinned.”

A dialogue with the past, a negotiation with fate, Each year adds layers, never too late. “My dear, we’ve grown, not just in age, But in wisdom, in patience, on life’s vast stage.”

A chuckle escapes as I recall a blunder, A night too wild, a world of wonder. “Did we ever imagine we’d be this person today? So full of stories, in every which way?”

I pour another coffee, the aroma rich and deep, A testament to mornings, no longer just for sleep. “Our dreams, have they changed?” I ponder aloud, “To be happy, to be kind,” I vow, unbowed.

The sun climbs higher, a new day beckons, With promises, with potential, with lessons. “Another year older, another year wiser,” I smile at the thought, my heart’s advisor.

So here’s to the years, both tough and grand, To the moments that didn’t go as planned.
