Another Look at “My New Mantra”

Why did it flop?

I have some theories on why “My New Mantra” only got two views.

First off, it wasn’t a serious piece. I felt the urge to share my new favorite hype song in the form of a quick story. Most of the stuff I read on Medium is pretty intellectual.

The next thing is the title. I know it sounds vague and could be about anything. I think the subtitle saying it’s from a TikTok song probably turned people off.

Lastly, the song itself is likely only thought of as good music to a small subset of people. I played it for someone in my “offline” life, and they requested I turn it off after the first chorus.

I’m not surprised this didn’t get many views, but I also still like the story even though it sounds like it could have been a Buzzfeed article. (No shade to Buzzfeed, I love their stuff).
