Anole Time and Place
Janis Joplin, with Big Brother and the Holding Company, are doing Summertime
Well, I can pretend that summer is here. Yesterday I was sitting on my chopping block beside the stacked firewood at the top of my terraced garden. I was contemplating the infinite. My little Green Anole friends (Anolis carolinensis) were poking around looking for ants to eat. They were fairly successful. They have just started coming out.

Estimates have these little dinos evolving from about 46–55 million years ago. I watched several for a while. They changed from green to gray to brown seemingly at will. This trait is both defensive and offensive, depending on the particular circumstance. They are common throughout most of the Carolinas out through east Texas and southward.

Different angles and perspectives give you an idea about my time hanging out by the woodpile. Then, with my woodpile chores complete I took an arduous hike around the backyard in search of other tiny packages.

The weeds and flowers are starting to bloom so the bees are here too.

I did my due diligence and read up on anoles. I can’t be blamed for doing the same with these tiny, colorful pop-ups. The purple one is perhaps half an inch wide. The yellow one is smaller than that. My iPhone 13 Pro seemed to enjoy the outing.

I ripped the knee out of my old Levi’s getting in the dirt for this one. I’m considering patching it with my dirty red bandana like back in the good old days.

Sitting on the deck soaking in a sublime sunset with a properly equipped glass topped off the day nicely.
Cheers ya’ll!
