The hopeful in America is becoming desperate while the political fringe is already in raving idiocy. The majority are mildly concerned but hopeless. And we are still months away from 2024.

Elections are always crazy, but the American frenzy has eliminated all hints of sanity. Is there anything we can learn from this? Or are we doomed to repeat the same fears and disgust at the collapse of our social contract?

We will learn little from the people involved, who are limited to kindergarten morality (mine!), third-grade messaging (two for me and none for you), and nothing from the official media and explainers. The latter is paid to obfuscate and confuse by pretending nothing has changed.

These channels are already locked into media dictated by the oligarchy with manufactured content that allows no thought beyond what is normal. Normal went terminal with COVID after several decades of declining health, so what we are being fed is not normal.

While America and the rest of the planet face smoke, fires, floods, and deadly heat waves that are not exceptional, that emerging reality is not an allowed topic of political debate. Those things are either ignored or kept as individual disasters that have no real connection to each other.

Everyone knows these disasters are all intimately and uniquely connected to climate warming, but you will not hear that on national news. The words climate change, let alone climate warming, are rarely uttered where the mass population would hear them.

With this, we can see examples of what we can learn from the insanity imposed on us. It is a waste of time to pay attention to what is said in our primary media on these disasters beyond the practical and tactical. Storms, heat waves, and smoke causing dangerous conditions are all valuable.

To understand what is happening and what it means requires a level of academic analysis reminiscent of Marshal McLuhan, although transposed to an age almost impossible to imagine from the naive simplicity of fifty years ago. He introduced an early meme, the “medium is the message’“ recognizing that our electronic media was an essential part of the message that media carried at any time.

Rather than recognizing the effects of electronic media on the ways of thinking, McLuhan’s area of study, we are faced with only the medium as the messages are all lies.
