An Update With Nothing New

I hope you are as excited as I am!

I have just released the newest version of Medium Distribution Info. Personally, I think it is great. I can’t wait to hear what you think about it. Oh, and a sneak peek at Medium Earnings, an extension that is under development.

Would you look at these twins? Exciting stuff, eh? Image by modelnikosmith from Pixabay

Medium Distribution info 4.0beta

I just finished refactoring the Medium Distribution Info extension. It’s taken me a couple of days and I am excited to be able to finally release it.

I have rewritten a lot of the code. I am a bit stunned to manage to pull it off. The major upside: now I understand every last piece of code I have written or copied.

The downsides? There are none.

But maybe I introduced a new bug or two. That’s why I am releasing this version only to our new group of beta-testers.

Another thing you might consider a downside is that I introduced no new features.

So, yup. No downsides. None. I won’t even bother with coming up with a name for this release.

Not naming the release might have to do with the fact that I learned how to use these things called Observables. You use these to watch out for any changes on your webpage, so that the extension can add Distributed Topics to it when everything is there, for example.

I introduced quite a few of those ‘voyeurs’. Don’t worry, I get rid of them once they have done their kinky job.

Yet, there are a couple of other advantages to this new codebase as well: the new code should allow me to speed things up with development and it should run faster (oh, the interaction is sooo smooth now), but I doubt any of you will notice the increase in speed.

Thank you, beta testers!

A couple of awesome people have graciously accepted the invitation to become a beta-tester. I will mention who those people are in an upcoming post, but it doesn’t feel good to list them at this moment: I don’t know all of their Medium-handles. I want to include every single one of them.

All of you beta testers: thanks for tagging along and making the extension better. You guys and gals are marvelous!

At the moment, I have only released Medium Earnings Info as a beta. There has been some positive feedback already and I plan to roll out that extension soon.

Medium Earnings in action. As you can see, there is still a lot of work to be done.

If you want to have earlier access to the extensions too, check out this story on how to join.

What future features to expect

It’s very hard to predict the future, especially if it hasn’t already happened yet.

I said earlier that I want to add small increments of functionality with each release, so don’t expect a world of changes. Things I have in store:

  • more stuff to analyze on the analysis-page
  • another story relating another failed attempt at showing more than just the primary topics
  • see Distributed Topics on stories that are on custom domains (not on medium.com)
  • improved UX in the analysis
  • better downloads

And… I will probably release Medium Distributed Earnings sometime soon.

Thanks for reading this small development update. Keep the suggestions about what to analyze coming (there have been only a few so far), and don’t hesitate to propose a new name for the upcoming version. I would like it if it doesn’t include your kink, though.

See you at the next update. In the meantime: stay awesome and get your stories Chosen for Further Distribution!
