An Unbiased Noncontroversial Review of the Korean Drama Series: “Marry My Husband” (2024)
A time-travel rom-com. Sans controversy, it’s a “What If”. What if you went back in time and got your best friend to marry your husband?

“Marry My Husband” was released in 2024, has 16 episodes, is streaming on Amazon Prime and tvN; and can be categorized as Time Travel, Fantasy, Revenge Drama, and Romance-Comedy (Rom-Com). This Korean drama series is based on the novel of the same name and is also serialized as a webtoon.
NOTE: This Korean drama series is causing some controversy. But sans controversy, here is my unbiased objective review of this revenge drama/ time-travel / romantic comedy.
Main Characters:
- Kang Ji-Won (played by Park Min-Young, “Healer”)
- Yoo Ji-Hyeok (played by Na In-Woo, “Longing For You”)
- Park Min-Hwan (played by Lee Yi-Kyung)
- Jung Soo-Min (played by Song Ha-Yoon)
PLOT SUMMARY:
A woman is dying and her husband won’t pay the hospital bill. She leaves the hospital and comes home to find her husband in bed with her best friend. She accidentally falls, hits her head and dies. Only … she doesn’t die? Instead, she wakes up 10 years before she gets married. Since she knows the future, she thinks to herself: ‘Why not get my best friend to ‘Marry My Husband’?” They deserve each other.
♦ It’s a Miracle!
In “Marry My Husband”, Kang Ji-Won, is slowly dying. She has been diagnosed with stomach cancer and the doctors give her 6 months. She might live 12 months if a miracle occurs. A miracle does occur. But not the way she thought it would.
The hospital informs her that her bills have not been paid. They will not continue chemotherapy treatment until they receive payment. She tries to call her husband on the phone but gets no answer. So she leaves the hospital and takes a taxi to their apartment.
When she opens the door she finds her husband, Park Min-Hwan, in bed with her best friend, Jung Soo-Min, discussing how they will spend the insurance money after she dies. She becomes angry and excited. Her husband accidentally pushes her and she falls backward, hitting her head on a glass table. In her mind she thinks … is this how my unhappy life ends?
Kang Ji-Won spent her entire life trying to be happy and in The End, she dies betrayed and unhappy. But wait! Her story is not over!
She opens her eyes and realizes she’s not dead. She’s alive, at work, unmarried, and … ??? … IT’S A MIRACLE!! She’s not dreaming. So it must be a miracle.
♦ Why Not Get My Best Friend to Marry My Husband?
Being married to Park Min-Hwan was not a wonderful life. Indeed it was misery. He quit his job and his mother moved in with them. Kang Ji-Won paid all of the bills and worked all day. When she came home, she was expected to do the housework and cook. She was disrespected, mistreated, unappreciated, and abused. Not just by her husband but by her mother-in-law too.
Even when she told them she had been diagnosed with cancer they showed no mercy or concern for her well-being. The mother-in-law told her not to use the sickness as an excuse not to work. Her husband decided since his wife was going to die anyway, he should buy life insurance. Also, since she was at the hospital, he could have an affair with her best friend and they could plan for their future life after her death.
Once Kang Ji-Won realizes that she has been given another chance to live her life all over again, she determines that this time … she will be happy!
She was planning to marry her boyfriend, but she had miraculously time-traveled to before her wedding. Since she was not married and since she already knew the future, i.e. that her husband would have an affair with her best friend, she thought… ‘I’ll get my best friend to marry my husband’.
She knows what will happen in the future so she manipulates current events to change the outcome. There are some things, however, she did not know so she could not predict. Such as? Such as the fact that her boss, Yoo Ji-Hyeok, liked her but never pursued her. Now he has a chance and maybe this time, she will marry him.
Where to Watch
Viewership and Rating:
- IMDb: 8.3 out of 10 stars
- My Drama List: 8.5 out of 10 stars
- Dramabeans: 8.3 out of 10 stars
- Kyahaha: 3.7 out of 5 stars
- Amazon customers rated this series 3.6 out of 5 stars
My personal rating aligns with My Drama List. When you see the pitiful state of the main character, Kang Ji-Won, a terminally ill cancer patient as she sits on her bed in the hospital room … your heart immediately goes out to her. If only, she could rewrite her life story with a happy ending. And then … a miracle occurs!
The time travel gave hope. Since Kang Ji-Won knows her future, she can change her past. The romantic comedy elements make “Marry My Husband” very entertaining and sappy sweet! Yes, the story-line is very predictable. But you are still willing to happily follow along and see what will happen in each episode.
The rating of 8.5 out of 10 stars is reasonable.
