An Open Letter To My Fellow Patients
I told the doctor I broke my leg in two places. He told me to quit going to those places- Henny Youngman
My dearest Patients,
Hopefully, on your patient’s journey, you’ll meet a doctor who meets your needs. Regardless, have the following in mind when you pay the doctor a visit:
- Give a complete history. Tell the full story. Leave nothing out. You will not believe how important one small bit of information makes all the difference.
- Please work with your intuition. Hopefully, you have developed it. If you have, it is your steadfast companion. It can save you.
- Take notes. Depending on what you are dealing with; what you eat, drink, where you have been to, recreational activities. You might forget details. Keep score. As for its importance, refer to number 1.
- Take nothing for granted. If you aren’t the careful type, have someone who knows your matter and is careful.
- What you eat and drink matters. How you sleep matters too. Exercising matters. The physicians aren’t talking bullshit.
- Drugs are drugs. It doesn’t matter the package. They are still drugs. Whether as supplements, recreational, analgesics, over the counter. They have an end game if that helps. Keep note of all you are ingesting and relay the information. Also, note the way your body reacts to each drug. Nothing is insignificant. Yes, your body might handle it this time, but someone else might not be so lucky.
Yours Sincerely,
Nkeonye
