An Open Letter to…

KTHT Challenge Prompt

This week’s challenge is inspired by a number of courageous writers here in KTHT and the family traditions of some of my friends. I have a friend who wrote a letter to each of her children on the day they were born. The letter talked about what was happening in the world that day and my friend’s reflections on life and her world. It also contained hopes for them as adults. The letter was given to them on their eighteenth birthday. I have another who had everybody who attended her son’s baptism write an inspirational message to him. The messages were sealed in a box also to be given to them on their eighteenth birthday. These were messages they wished to pass on to their children of knowledge of who they were and hope for their future.

With these inspirations, I came up with this week’s challenge. You may have thoughts you wish to share with an ex, an abuser, or someone that hurt you badly; write them. You may wish to write a letter to your younger self, older self, or maybe even future self — write them. You may have a message for a loved one that has passed — write them. You may have something you wish to confess to someone but for one reason or not were never able to do so; write them. You may have a message for a person who was important to you in the past. It might have been a teacher, a mentor, or a person who was there at the right moment in your life; write them. There may be a famous person or even a fictional hero present or past that you have a message for; write them. This is your chance to cleanse, praise, forgive, acknowledge vent to, or thank. Take that chance now.

You can get as creative as you wish. Just make sure you keep our publication themes in mind (spirituality, metaphysics, mindfulness, life lessons, self-love/care/awareness, conscious relationships, nature).
