An Open Letter Addressed to Donald Trump

A writing challenge gone wrong

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

“Compose an open letter addressed to Donald Trump, and share your thoughts and feelings around the last four years and how they’ve impacted you, the country, and the world.”

When I read the challenge, “Norma Jean” was the first thing I heard in my head:

Like a candle in the wind

Never knowing who to cling to

When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you

But I was just a kid

Your candle burned out long before

Your legend ever did

Goodbye Norma Jean

Though I never knew you at all

You had the grace to hold yourself

While those around you crawled

Goodbye Norma Jean

From the young man in the 22nd row

Who sees you as something as more than sexual

More than just our Marilyn Monroe

And it seems to me you lived your life

Like a candle in the wind

Never knowing who to cling to

When the rain set in

And I would have liked to have known you

But I was just a kid

Your candle burned out long before

Your legend ever did

Your candle burned out long before

Your legend ever did

So I guess I’ll start there…

President Donald J. Trump

1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW

Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President,

Allow me to introduce myself. I am no one. Just a taxpayer, patriot, American supporter, who can trace her family tree back to the 1600s. Before this country was ever a country, let alone ‘great’.

I’ve only ever written the White House on one other occasion. It was mere days before former US President Bill Clinton was to leave office after 8-years of service. What I said to him will stay between him and me. However, imagine my shock when I came home one day and found a large manilla envelope with nothing on it but a return address stamp of the White House in the upper left-hand corner. But I digress.

The second thing that you now have in common with him regarding me is this — my support. It was fashionable to support Clinton, and it wasn’t fashionable to support you. Did I agree 100% of the time with what either of you did? Of course not. That’s humanly impossible. No one person agrees all day and all night with another human. It just doesn’t happen.

Do I think you dropped the ball on more than one occasion? I sure do. Do I think you could have handled some things better than you did? Without question. But you were exactly what 73+ million people wanted and needed.

A breath of fresh air.

You didn’t need the money. You even donated your paychecks to drive that point home. Do I think you did the best you could with what you had to work with? Without question! Maybe, just maybe, if you had more support and more people fighting with you instead of against you, well, who knows where this country would be right now!

All the time and effort that the Hill put in with trying to bring you down. All the time and effort, not to mention outright blatant hate hurled in your direction — if all of that had been positive energy and support energy instead? It blows my mind to think about it.

What has happened to you, your position, and this country over the last four years specifically has had me questioning, not for the first time but for the first time seriously, about whether I even want to stay in this country. My ancestors have fought in every war, every conflict, since the American Revolution. What happened on January 6 was not an attempt to take over the government. Not by any stretch of the imagination. It was Day One of the next American Revolution.

We the people are tired. And sick. And sick and tired of being sick and tired. Not to mention lied to, used, manipulated, sold out to the highest bidder. Well, you get the drift. This country has drifted so far away from its roots that there is no turning back at this point. There is no fixing America.

There’s only hitting the restart button.

COVID maybe the karma this country has brought upon its self. The same ones that are causing the infection rates to soar are the same ones that have held the country hostage for decades now. Self-interest above the interest of the country and its people. It’s truly appalling.

And if this isn’t all bad enough, the ones who would love to see you rot in Guantanamo Bay are the very ones who should be brought up on treason charges. How ironic is that?

For now, for you, for your family, it’s over. Done. Go to wherever you call home and take time to heal. I’m sorry that this happened to you and to our once great country. The lack of compassion for one of our own is truly astonishing.

Words such as life, liberty, happiness, honor, respect — they’re all merely words in a dictionary. They have no meaning except what they have assigned to them by academics. That’s another entire can of worms that will go undiscussed here.

Mr. President, I wish you all the light, love, healing, happiness, and peace that was afforded you in the last four years. May God always be with you and guide you along the way.

Regards,

A Very Sad U.S. Citizen of The Un-United States of America

Please make the following changes before submitting again:

Vocal does not accept stories that present personally-held beliefs about others or unfounded conspiracies as fact, or that implicate others in those beliefs.

What in the actual fuck? You want me to “write a letter” but I’m not allowed to express my thoughts and or feelings in said letter? So what exactly what that be then? Talking about the weather and his future housing and job plans??

FK you, Vocal.

It’s now on Medium where I can piss off extreme leftists who will have nowhere to yell, rant, scream, call me names, tell me how wrong I am, etc. all in the name of love, peace, and unity.

Not to mention make a few bucks, so there.

I see more clearly now how so many people who were middle-of-the-road were goaded into becoming a huge influx for the right. I’m a registered Independent who runs down the middle. Usually.

Yet the left will scratch its head, balls, and ass trying to figure out what is “wrong” with 73M US citizens.

Look in the damn mirror already!
