An Old Man Bargaining Over Lunch Prices
I tried to help, but there was a twist
I was waiting for my lunch in a diner and eavesdropping on a man bargaining with the waitress over the cost of soup. He was upset about the cost of a whole bowl and asked about the prices of other sizes. Even a cup was too much for him. He asked if there was a change in the price if he waived the dinner roll that was included. She said no. He asked if other soup options were more affordable. She said no. Finally, exasperated, he made a selection.
I flagged down the waitress and whispered to her that I’d heard the conversation and that I wanted to buy his lunch.
She said, “Oh, ignore him. He owns the Ford dealership, and he’s just cheap.”
